CONTEST RESULTS! I KNOW YOU WANT THEM!!!

Hey all!

Having survived a small trip to NYC I now return to present you with the contest results! Let it be known that we had 555 submissions, and we evaluated every one of them. It wasn't an easy pick; we narrowed it down to 25 or so that we thought were really solid.

That said, congratulations to theredfish for his excellent submission! YOU ARE THE WINNER. This comic had us in stitches at the beginning of judging; an excellent start to the process.

Good work, sir! We'll be in touch with you over the next couple of days to discuss prizes and what-not. As a consolation to everyone else, we'll be making "best-of" posts over the next few weeks showing the ones we thought were super solid.

Thanks again to all for making this a tremendous success! Seriously, we were overwhelmed by the response. Can't wait to do another contest at some point in the future. :D

I still don't get it.....obscure reference is obscure I guess. Is this one of those things where you have to know the person personally AND know the movie/tv/book or whatever it's referencing?

All these mentions about movies or other sources are obscure, but an image of a genie in a bottle is more mainstream. You know how the genie looks all wispy at the bottom when he's coming out of the lamp? That's the joke. The smoke isn't smoke anymore, but the last bit of him you can see as he leaves.

It's a joke on multiple levels!

Kazaam stars a freakishly all person as a genie with a short person telling him not to go.

John is said freakishly tall person with...

Okay kids, truth be told I didn't think it was funny because of the movie reference, but thinking about John as Shaq has indeed brought another level of excitement to this comic. So thank you, everyone, for your comedic contribution!

Truth be told it's humorous without any reference to the movie which has been brought up. I mean I never saw Kazaam, and I still chuckled at poor Yuko's plight at losing the ever-handy, tall genie.

Kazaam wasn't the first thing that popped into my head when I read the comic. I was thinking more along the lines of "I dream of Genie" Because Genie always called Tony "master" and if I recall correctly the Shaq genie called his master "Max" more often than "master".
But that's just my over active mind working... lol

...all I really remember visually in my head from that Kazaam movie is Shaq and some "bad guy" eating goat eyes in the back of a limo...*shudders*

Well, first of all, congrats to theredfish! I'm afraid I'm uncultured and never saw the Shaq movie. So instead my brain supplied Disney's Aladdin. So, in this version Genie is played by John, Aladdin by Yuko, and Jasmine by Link.

Yeah, I'd totally watch that remake.

I thought it was funny. Well, okay, maybe not hysterically funny but...appropriate? My biggest chuckle was from imagining Yuko (though I have no idea what she sounds like) tearfully pleading with Genie!John not to leave, complete with drippy music.

If groove is in the heart, then perhaps funny is in the mind?
