luckily they are all nerdy

As you get older your tastes change, and you get less excited about some things and more excited about others. Cereal box prizes have maintained a static level of excitement for me, though, from childhood into adulthood. Pouring out breakfast and finding a toy in my bowl fills me with irrational delight, even though I inevitably give them to my Dad, who likes to fiddle with things as he works. Here are some of our favorite prizes (John, post yours in the comments! I'll add it tomorrow):

Yuko: "a wind-up car from Cars"
Conrad: "a pair of 3D glasses that I wore so I could be like that asshole in Back To The Future ... they made my eyes hurt"
Ananth: "a watch I got in a box of Rice Krispies ... it broke but I kept wearing it because everything is awesome when you are eleven"
John: "I liked those mini lego sets. I don't know what cereal I got them from of if I'm imagining it."

My dad still buys cereal with toys in the boxes and gives them to me. My favorite is a Batman disc launcher.

Now I need to go buy applejacks for a Starfleet badge.

i have the batman disk launcher too! i got it from koko crunch (i don't know if there's coco crunch where you people are in the world). i also have the batman and joker toys. this is the dark knight movie tie-in toys, though.

bah, i want a nerdy starfleet badge too! too bad they don't have apple jacks in my part of the word (loser is me).

We don't have Koko Crunch here, but we have Cocoa Puffs and Cocoa Krispies ... where are you from? Either one of those might be a rebranded Koko Crunch.

cocoa puffs and cocoa krispies are totally different from koko crunch. we have cocoa puffs here in the Philippines, though. those are kinda expensive. koko crunch is made by nestle, BTW.

i took a stroll along the breakfast cereal displays at the nearest grocery from my office and found semi-old stock of other cereals with them batman toys. resisted urge to get another batsignal launcher at the cost of finishing of the cereal (you can see the toys, ruining the surprise).

I got a red Engineering badge from Frosted Flakes the other day! YAY! Now I'm gonna eat some cheese-its for a Star Trek shirt! That movie has made me such a nerd for the Star Trek universe.

The best prize from a cereal I think was some promotional 3D glasses you could wear during a particular TV show on a particular day. Except I wore them all the time :D

Dude, Target has it in stock. Go to www.target.com & do a search on "Enterprise" in "Toys". Get ready to spend 30 buckazoids.
It's BIG. It lights up; it makes appropriate nerdy starship noises (Scotty would call it talking) and the "Kung Fu Grip" is actually the way it mounts to it's stand (K.F.G. sounds better than "ball/socket attachment tip").
No home is complete without one.

Toys use to be in the many boxes of cereal...but now, very few that every has cool ones. It's usually the kind where you collect so many UPC and mail away for one, with a shipping and handling payment of course. I'm 26, so... I'm not that disappointed in getting a free toy, but it would be nice to find one every once in awhile. Stupid cereal companies.

I used to get the color changing spoons in cereal boxes all the time. I was fascinated by the blue to green change! Sadly we don't have cereal boxes on college campus. u_u

Best thing I ever got out of a cereal box was this awesome red and turquoise digital watch (from a box of Honeycomb, I think) that actually worked for, like, 2 years. I adored that thing. x3

I don't remember the toys I got from cereal boxes. I was the last child on a latter of 10 boys (my mom babysat...) and was never fast enough to gets my hands on the prize.
I do remember, though, the epic struggles over the said toy which always ended up with me crying and many a bite wound for all involved.

Only five or six different types? The instant I moved into my first apartment, I went out and bought something like ten different varieties, and I always keep them stocked.

It freaks my friends out when I open my cabinet and offer them cereal for a meal. No one ever thought I was a cereal junkie.

And there's a sealed smoked salmon living with the cereal. I have no clue why.

Anyone else remember the Ninja Turtles cereal bowls? It was a full sized bowl, and I kinda' remember them being actually wrapped to the box. I had Donatello and my brother had Michaelangelo.

God(s) bless cereal box toys. They're so cheap and ridiculous and yet so awesome.

I'm still disappointed over the Star-Trek-pins-in-the-cereal-boxes contest. I was so psyched to get all three Federation pins, but they discontinued the contest before I could get the Medical pins. So I've only got Command and Engineering...

...And I may have just answered why I don't have a girlfriend.
