What's in a name; new stuff in the store

Two of my favorite people in the world, Kyle and Jenn, got married in South Carolina a few years back, back around the time Yuko and I started dating ... so this chronicles something a little older. It's weird because I filled out the forms digitally in MD -- so someone mispelled a printed name. Go figure! I can say this: Yuko has gotten plenty of mileage out of it.

The store is restocked with ... well, a lot. Some Zoolology tees still up, but this time we've added 2XL Mens! There are also new navy blue Phoenix Down tees in mens and womens sizes, done using the same discharge printing technique as the grey ones. There are also more pinsets. Basically check out the store and see if anything you've been looking for is back in stock. :)

Wait, is he a year older in Earth years, or a year older in Panagarixa years?

Our feeble human minds cannot comprehend a Panagarixa year.

Also, Happy birthday dude!

Comment by Kriztov (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 23:17

Actually, by chance, a Panagarixa year is exactly the same length as an Earth year. See, panagarixa has a smaller orbit than Earth, but moves much slower on the course of its orbit.

Happy Birthday

I hope you enjoy your birthday, I would write a poem but honestly right now I am kind of burned out on birthday poems as I had been writing them for a year for anyones birthday in my family. If you still want one let me know and I will nonetheless(^^)

That's "Happy Birthday Mr Ananth!" in Panagarixanese C:

They actually speak English on there, but after feeding that message through an extensive game of Panagarixanese Whispers (with Fancy Place Tuxedo Rentals near the start of it) that's what came back.

The true bliss comes when telemarketers and phone survey people try and pronounce names. The best I've come across: Masahiro transmutated into Maraschino. As in, the cherry.

Comment by Fraoch (not verified) Thu, 01/07/2010 - 02:51

ahahaha I get that too. You'd be very surprised at how many times a three-letter name like Epp can be misspelled: Erp, Eep, Fpp, etc. each time, I'm like 'Really? Three letters?' But 'Rugreegez?' That's just lazy lol

Happy Birthday Mr. Panagarixa

as a person with a hard to spell/pronounce last name, i feel your pain. happy birthday, i hope the people of your home planet get you something nice.

Happy Birthday!

Comment by Kaotik4266 (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 07:25

Yeah! Here's hoping you have a good one.

On the topic of names being mangled, why on earth would anyone ever spell "Ian" as "Iain"?! Apparently it's a fairly common alternate spelling of my name, but I've never met anyone with that spelling! My surname is always misspelt and mispronounced as well - it's Irish, with a very similar Italian equivalent. Ah, multiculturalism! *breaks out into that song* XP

They Never Misspell My Name ...

Comment by McClaud (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 07:55

... but they always mispronounce it.

I mean, you'd think "Baumbach" would be easy, as English derives a lot of words from German, but no. I've heard Boombawch, Bawmbawch, and Bowmbowck. It's Bawm-ba. Like La Bamba.

My wife still laughs. ;_;

Birthday wishes!

Comment by ChristineA (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 08:26

Happy Birthday Ananth! Isn't awesome having people who've never actually met you wish you Happy Birthday? lol!!
I can also sympathize with the whole name issue. My maiden name was butchered more often than not. O_o I was actually glad to take my husband's name.. mainly because "Anderson" is so much easier for people to pronounce and spell. :D

My friends had to make up nicknames for me because my name is so short. It got to the point that at one lunch period during middle school, my one friend looked me dead in the eye and said "You need a nickname, so I'm going to start calling you Chuckles." This was out of nowhere, with a totally deadpan expression. And as much fun as it is being called Chuckles, the best nicknames are the ones that pop up from situations like this.

Also, happy birthday!

Happy Birthday! It's so weird, everyone's birthdays seem to be in October-- mine is tomorrow. o_o

I've had my last name misspelled as "Know", which makes me feel intelligent.

Heh its a weird world

Comment by Naktarr (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 08:56

Mine's tomorrow too, and two of my friends - maybe its the age group? I'm not going to try and list the rest of October birthdays going on around me...

Happy Birthday to everyone!!! :D

My first name causes trouble, not because its the result of a mother who wants to make their child suffer weird misspellings but rather its classified as a guys name and I am a lady XD

At least you didn't get handed a ball gown!

You're spelling it wrong

Comment by A.L. (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 09:52

First, happy birthday dude! Second, you and Yuko date ( I should have been completely aware of this ages ago,I am so slow)?

Thirdly,my twin bro gets his name misspelled and mispronounced all the time.We live in the southern part of Georgia in the states, and for some reason people around here when people see his name-which is spelled the French way-they try to stretch the friggin vows and through a w in there for some reason. Also if they know how to say it and try to spell it,they spell it the ghetto way which is "Antwan". For such a simple name with two syllables, alot of people get it so wrong. Some folks even try to spell my name like his sometimes D: (Antonio is not spelled completely like Antoine).

Comment by Ananth Tue, 10/06/2009 - 10:27

Somewhere out there you have a ghetto namebrother named Antwan ...

Yuko and I date, yeah. :) We try to keep it out of the comic as much as possible for various reasons, one of which the information doesn't really advance the humor so much.

I probably due,or someone

Comment by A.L. (not verified) Thu, 10/08/2009 - 13:23

I probably due,or someone who looks like me similar to me since he and I are twins (fraternal btw).Thing about that is I constantly get mistaken for someone else or told I look like someone a person knows at work all the time.I find it mildly entertaining considering it makes my day abit more interesting and less boring.

I guess that's true about the relationship thing, even if letting it be known didn't effect the story at all. Also thanks for the reply, nice to know people actually read and like the things I have to say.

Harumph.

Comment by Joe D (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2009 - 10:00

You think "Medwid" would be easy enough to get phonetically, but I've seen some really bizarre variations, from Medwig to Midwed to Megwin.

I can sympathize with you on this one; my name is Allison and there are a buttload of variations of it, so people get it wrong all the time. But the most unusual one I've gotten is "Allicion."

Happy birthday! I don't know the customs from your native planet, but let it be known that on Earth we eat cake and sing songs of merriment.

I saw the post about more Zoolology shirts, added one to my cart, saw the price of 25 bucks, and was all like "whaaaaaat." You guys should have a discount for poor college students. I just went to a LAN party on Saturday (-$15), and paid for 2 memberships (-$I don't remember). I now have a grand total of $enough to buy ramen.

Not that I'm saying they should cost as much as ramen, but... THEY SHOULD BE CHEAPER. D:

Apparently, for my whole life, my dad has been putting my name down as 'Sammantha' on all forms he's filled out in the Coast Guard. If my mom hadn't filled out my birth certificate, I would officially be Sammantha and I'd have been spelling my own name wrong this whole time.
