Delilah & The Basilisk pt. 2

Delilah & The Basilisk pt. 2

Thu, 12/03/2009 - 22:22 by Ananth in response to delilah and the basilisk 2

Comic's up! Not as early as we wanted, but these take a little longer to do. Man, that basilisk is adorable.

The new tees shipped to us earlier today ... we should be getting them in soon. For those of you with RSS readers, I activated the Product RSS in the store, so you can know as soon as we put them up.

This reminds me, we're not sure we'll be doing the ZooLOLogy shirt again, so if you wanted one of those now is definitely the time to snag one! I think we'll consider the PaleontoLOLgy shirt to be the new LOLogy tee.

Everything is in stock for the holiday season - Mawzantine and Phoenix Down tees, Girl & Cat and Fox & Raven and Forza prints, Beasties and Girl with the Skeleton Hand buttons, and stickers! We're going to be shipping everything out extra quick to ensure everything arrives in time for gift-giving. Oh, and all tees ship with a free sticker!

I think that's ... everything? Yes. See you Tuesday!

What an adorable serpent-fowl beast.

I'm really loving the palette you guys chose for these comics. Reminds me of the stuff I used to read in my youth.

Comment by Lauren (not verified) Thu, 12/03/2009 - 22:37

The baby basilisk reminds me of my new baby cockatiel (Morgaine le Fay), and that makes me smile so hard.

Not that I'm sure how one smiles "hard," but I think you get the idea. :D

George Rohac

If you want to know how one goes about smiling hard just look at George!

That comment made me smile

Ahaha sooo cute!

*eagerly awaits next page* Love these stories you guys think up. :3

Comment by Michael (not verified) Thu, 12/03/2009 - 22:44

I've been looking forward to the comic all day. The Basilisk is absolutely adorable -- great job on it, you and Yuko both. And I can't wait for the PaleontoLOLogy shirts to come in. Keep up the good work.

The basilisk is adorable!!

When are we going to see him on some merch? ;-)

I'm liking where this storyline is going so far!

Such a great pet!

Comment by Jamie Noguchi (not verified) Thu, 12/03/2009 - 23:13

Oh man, I wish I could take him to work with me!!

signature style

Comment by Adam M (not verified) Thu, 12/03/2009 - 23:51

Between this story and the last one, it looks like "adorable and heartwarming but surprisingly dark" may be the signature style for Johnny Wander short stories. There aren't may stories that can make you go "awww, how cute!" while having random people drop dead from petrification. :-)

Comment by Kristen Saunders (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 01:38

I would agree they have a darkside, but are playful, I think they kind of remind me of Maw the crow he is so cute, but there is something just not entirely right about the whole thing. I love the poetry pieces they put in occasionally too like the one at the very beginning. They remind me of the German nursery rhymes my mother translated to me when I was a kid.

Comment by Janko Raven (not verified) Thu, 12/03/2009 - 23:52

I LOVE the basilisk's design - its just darling! And I'm amused at how the people are quietly turning to stone while Delilah is none the wiser. I can't wait to see where this goes!

I am absolutely loving this

Comment by SarahSongbrd (not verified) Thu, 12/03/2009 - 23:53

I am absolutely loving this =)
"Puppy" is adorable.
Keep up the awesome work.

Oh, wow.

Comment by Kosciej (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 00:22

That businessman sure got gypped.
I do love the basilisk's pointed tongue, though. Very nice touch. This looks awesomely promising.

The beginning of a... SOLID friendship?

Comment by StephenB (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 00:44

Man, I love how the arc is coming along so far. :D
I agree with Adam. Panel 7 was so heartmeltingly cute and sad and sweet and dark and charming and ironic at the same time I couldn't help but smile at the ridiculousness of the situation (in a good way! A lonely little girl is in need of a friend. The answer? A mythical creature that turns people to stone!).

I think the little guy's powers are seeping through my screen though. He's petrified a smile onto my face!

Can't wait to see the rest,

P.S. A blind person leading a basilisk; that's probably the cleverest pair of characters I've ever seen.

that joke was terrible XD

I apologize. I did seem a little... STONED when I made that comment, didn't I? :D

The Basilisk, leaving a trail of chaos and cuteness in its wake.Wondering what's going to happen to those kids on the next page?

That is morbidly cute, oh my.

I see another "Patch together" product :)
So cute! I love the comic. I've been lurking a long time. I eagerly await each update! Great little story.

Comment by Kat (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 22:27

I need this quite badly. It would sit in my office and I would secretly imagine it turning troublesome students into stone. And, you know, following me around going "Chrrrr" <3

Ugh, I feel dumb. I didn't

Comment by Cam (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 01:19

Ugh, I feel dumb. I didn't get the point of the crouping until this comic =/

Great stuff, really cute.

It's a fascinating story, looking forward to see how it turns out. The Basilisk is absolutely adorable, like already stated by many others.

Here, here!

I'd like to second, once again, the "cute but dark" archetype. You two are the Roald Dahl of the interwebs.

The LOLgy shirt...

Comment by M (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 08:14

are they both pre-shrunk?

Yup! All our shirts should

Comment by Ananth Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:04

Yup! All our shirts should be preshrunk. If you put them into the dryer on high heat, they will shrink though. The brand we use is fashion-cut like AA as well, so they run a little smaller than your regular Gildan.

Comment by M (not verified) Sat, 12/05/2009 - 09:23

So regular wash and dry, got it, thanks!

What an adorable little agent of death and ruin!

Aww!!! it's so cute! my

Comment by Alice (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 09:46

Aww!!! it's so cute! my friend has a habit of calling every cute animal/small child she sees "puppy", so for a while we had a stray cat named Puppy. People always looked at us strange when we told them! And knowing my weakness for strange but cute creatures, I would probably want to adopt "puppy" here too! lol

I wonder what Death has in

Comment by Joe (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 10:53

I wonder what Death has in his journal about the Basilisk.
I mean, unless the person is somehow still alive after turning to stone, He would have at least seen the aftermath of the Basilisk's actions, right?

All I could say after

Comment by Ben (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 11:09

All I could say after reading this page was "Oh no...." This is so cute though.

Comment by Matt Datchuk (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 11:34

Everything about the comic is just looking sooooo good, and what a fun story idea.

The Basilisk

Comment by Zehnoda (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:35

Can I ride it?

Comment by Razor (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 13:18

That's the sound of my head exploding from the cuteness of the basilisk nosing its way into Delilah's lunch.

Comment by jwla (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 15:38

The comic looks fantastic! The Basilisk is so cute! :D

Hahaha, I had the same

Comment by Ananth Mon, 12/07/2009 - 12:31

Hahaha, I had the same problem when we started working on this one ... it seems all our lady protagonists will have songs about them.

Aww... This is the cutest

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 15:49

Aww... This is the cutest thing ever. I wanna cuddle with Puppy...

I think I wouldn't be alone

Comment by Aeyoqen (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 16:26

I think I wouldn't be alone in saying that basilisk is the cutest thing. Ever. And I want one!

Also, I love the color palate in this story :]

Comment by Stephen Kennedy (not verified) Fri, 12/04/2009 - 17:51

Oh, please please don't stop production of the zoolology shirts just yet. I think they're wonderful and was waiting until Christmas to buy one for my sister. Words cannot express how perfect a gift that would be for her. She wants to be a zoologist and would go completely nuts over the puns. But now that Christmas is upon us and I'm starting to shop, all the womens sizes are sold out D:. I could get her a different gift in the meantime but she absolutely has to own a zoolology shirt eventually.

I agree! I'm actually

Comment by Alex G (not verified) Sat, 12/05/2009 - 04:57

I agree! I'm actually currently on the road to being a zoologist ((random info)) and fell in love with the zoolology shirts, but unfortinately I cannot afford one until after christmas and my size is all sold out :'(

Although I do love the new zoolology shirts too, i'd rather have both! :D

Btw, I love the style of your guy's comics. Truly amazing.

Comment by landminecat (not verified) Sun, 12/06/2009 - 19:38

yes I totally agree!!! I've got a zoologist sister in law and a dinosaur obsessed brother, and a zoolology and paelentlology (however they're spelled!) for the pair of them would go so well for Christmas! Pleeeeasee - one more blast on them for Christmas??? :D

I don't know if we'll get

Comment by Ananth Mon, 12/07/2009 - 12:33

I don't know if we'll get Zoolology tees out in time for Christmas sadly, but I'm rethinking whether or not we'll print them again ...

Awwuh, man, you really need

Comment by Lisa (not verified) Tue, 12/08/2009 - 14:10

Awwuh, man, you really need to and then maybe I'll actually have some money to order them!

It's a shame you can't get

Comment by Stephen Kennedy (not verified) Tue, 12/08/2009 - 15:27

It's a shame you can't get them for Christmas. I decided to just buy a men's size for my sister. She'll still love it and probably use it for a pajama shirt.
