And they all lived happily ever after

Thu, 12/10/2009 - 23:24 by Ananth in response to delilah and the basilisk 4

Except for that bully, what a jerk. That's the end of Delilah! Hope you enjoyed it.

By the way, you blew us away over the past few days. I ordered more PaleontoLOLgy tees than usual and I thought it'd carry us through the new year but you guys cleaned us out in TWO DAYS. The only sizes we have left are Mens and Womens XL, and the totes. I reordered the tees - not sure if they'll be in in time for Christmas, but they'll be back as quick as we can restock! Oh, and the Prints holiday gift pack is restocked - there are only 7 Forza prints left and then they're gone forever! We're retiring that print. That's the update on that!

I wanna share some Delilah fanart we got over the past few days! This stuff looks stellar -- if you want your credit changed, please let me know in the comments.

From @asiaoddhours

From @joe_hunter

From @origamibunny

From BlueChesireCat

From Rickey Winrick

Thanks to everyone for their fanart! We spent the past couple of days geeking out over these. See you guys Tuesday!

I have seen our end, and it is a small blind girl with a basilisk.

Comment by b4k4-san (not verified) Thu, 12/10/2009 - 23:40

I can think of worse ways for it to end.

Comment by b4k4-san (not verified) Thu, 12/10/2009 - 23:40

I'm not sure whether I like this story or Girl with the Skeleton better.

But that was some cool fanart, makes me wish I could draw worth crap.

Comment by Joe (not verified) Thu, 12/10/2009 - 23:51

Twenty years later, Delilah sits upon a throne constructed from the statues of her enemies, each face appearing more horrified than the last. Puppy sits faithfully at her side as she passes judgment on all who come before her, waiting for the chance to open his eyes and make the empyreal seat just a little bit higher.

Her only regret is that she will never be able to gaze upon that which has brought her glory, but justice is blind, after all.

Th-that's the ending?

Comment by Y-bot (not verified) Thu, 12/10/2009 - 23:53

I...I felt like there was going to be some climax...Will you at least use these characters again?

Comment by Chris D. (not verified) Sat, 12/12/2009 - 06:14

I dunno, it's kinda what I expected. It's a little girl with a baby basilisk. I doubt super kung fu with an overweight bully was in the works. :-)

Awww~ That was heartwarming

Comment by Joe Hunter (not verified) Thu, 12/10/2009 - 23:58

That was heartwarming in a creepy, slightly threatening manner.

And I'm really happy you didn't totally hate my fanart!

I was expecting at least another page, but I still like this.

May bust out the canvas

Comment by OrcishIncubus (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 00:45

May bust out the canvas tablet and some acrylics over winter break and paint some fanart. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a picture of it though. It would be fun to paint again.

Comment by JB (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 02:02

'grievous bodily harm' as a tag on the comic reminds me of a certain part from 'Good Omens' by Gaiman&Pratchett. I think they would approve of this story arc, as I do :)

The whole concept of a little blind girl with a basilisk is awesome to begin with. Add in Yuko's art and it reaches dangerous levels of cuteness. Bravo!

C.D. Reimer, nice pun. =D

Comment by AryCapricat (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 03:01

Are all your short stories going to have disturbingly sweet endings? Cuz I sure hope they do!

Comment by Fjester (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 05:16

This is Dark, I like it! And a substantial body count for what looks like a children's story on the cover, and there isn't even a real moral to the story! Oh, sure; "don't bully the blind kid" comes to mind, but that's just common sense in my opinion.
To me it's more along the lines of; "It's alright to kill people if you are ignorant to the actual act." and also how ridiculously dangerous handicapped people are...

In any case, the story isn't all that much, but then again there is only so much you can squeeze into four pages. The art is great, and that's the greatest reason why I read JW (sorry Ananth!).

Great art, imagination and story!

Cool. Now its guaranteed she will remain friendless forever.

Comment by Dr3w (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 10:37

Wow, it's been a while since I left a comment... That story was AWESOME!!! I've never seen such a cute basilisk! It actually reminds me of a Chocobo... Anyone else get that vibe from it?

Awesome story, though I'm a bit upset that it's over already. I really hope you guys come back to this one in the future, it's got some amazing potential! Love it love it love it!!!

Hah, I'm so surprised this

Comment by Ananth Fri, 12/11/2009 - 12:44

Hah, I'm so surprised this is the first time someone said it reminded 'em of a chocobo! We were saying to ourselves that some people would likely see a similarity.

Glad you dug it! Not sure if we'll come back to it ... all depends on whether or not we can find an angle worth exploring. We'll see!

Comment by Dr3w (not verified) Mon, 12/14/2009 - 13:00

Maybe do a three part series... Childhood, Adulthood, and old age. *shrug* I dunno, I just really want to see more of them! Delila reminds me of a female me when I was younger, and that choco... I mean, basilisk, it's just too awesome to leave alone!

Awww! Such a cute ending! I think the fiction side-stories are some of my favorites in the archives. And oh wow thank you for the mention. :0!

Comment by Razor (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 13:41

hehehehe You go little Basilisk. I'd love to see Delilah 20 yrs from now, walking down the street with her faithful Basilisk by her side...and people fleeing in terror from her while she says "Hi! Hello! Good morning! Lovely day, isn't it?" XD

Interesting how that when the Basilisk is blindfolded, it too is, well, blind. There's something deep there but I can't put it together at the moment.

Comment by Loxicen (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 15:18

It would be awesome to have shirts with the basilisk on it, the lil guy is so adorable xD I loved this short... wish there was more! Very cool. :)

Not a Basilisk

Comment by Rizareth (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 15:56

Something I just realised this morning... Puppy's not a Basilisk, he's a Cockatrice!
A basilisk is traditionally a lizard or a snake, but since puppy's more like a rooster with a lizard's tail, he's a cockatrice instead.

Cleaned out indeed

Comment by Kasek (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 16:23

You guys were out of 2XL by the time I was able to get around to ordering, haha. Thankfully, 2XL is just my personal taste so I was able to snag an XL for my Christmas present to myself, which just arrived. Now my other family members are jealous, I'll make sure to reference them if you get more stock in.

So I take it that Delilah has no idea that her "puppy" is a monster that turns people stone? It's adorable, to say the least.

Comment by Kasek (not verified) Fri, 12/11/2009 - 16:37

Or, she really DOES know. After all, she had to knock down that bully to sit on him, and then move his stoned corpse over to the dog so she could have something to lean on.

This is a sweet, beautiful little story. I love it. Thank you!

It stands completely on its own-- it doesn't have to mean anything apart from what it means to those who read it and who know what it's like to love a puppy.

Good puppy.

We DO usually carry XXXL's!

Comment by Aido Mon, 12/14/2009 - 12:47

How depressing.

Comment by Green (not verified) Thu, 11/22/2012 - 15:04

She's a multiple-murderer and she doesn't even look ten years old yet. She is going to need some SERIOUS therapy once she finds out what her little friend there actually is. Either that, of course, or she'll live for the rest of her life without it being possible for her to grow close to anyone. :-(
