Wed, 03/03/2010 - 02:34 by Ananth in response to guest comic - hat trick

Hey guys! Today's guest comic is from Sophie Goldstein over at Darwin Carmichael is going to hell, a delightful comic that you should check out if you have a moment.

Yuko and I are in Portland right now! We'll be there till the 10th, visiting George and other folks. Comics ought to be on time, but forgive us any delays should they happen.

Have a great week, see you Thursday!

Oh my!

You say you are in portland! Is there anyway a young aspiring webcomic artist could have a chance to meet you?

Yes please!

Comment by Carolyn (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 15:18

Could you arrange an Amanda-Palmer-style ninja meetup on Twitter or something? I would totally buy you guys the tasty beverage of your choice.

Welcome to Portland.. I'm new to the city as well, But if you are doing any adventuring, I suggest you check out "Tea Chai Te" which is a really nice little Tea house on 23rd ave. And also Check out Voodoo doughnuts. Best donuts around.

Yes, definitely hit up

Comment by Cowdog (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 07:17

Yes, definitely hit up Voodoo Donuts(or however you spell that). I also highly recommend Flying Pie Pizza over on 77th and Stark. Don't order a large unless you brought friends....

Like a Cheshire Cat

Comment by Daneonychus (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 04:37

Oh George, not even a searing wave of optic lightning-fire can stifle that infamous grin! :D

maybe its time Ananth looked

Comment by DisposablePal (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 08:36

maybe its time Ananth looked into Ruby Quartz glasses or a fun sombrero.

Comment by Aloyisius (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 08:54

Aww, man, that was AWESOME.

I knew it!

Comment by Jamie Noguchi (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 08:58

I knew there was some dark, terribly power in them thar eyes.

The eyes!

Comment by ChristineA (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 09:01

The eyes! They burn!! LOL.
That was just too darn funny. XD

Comment by Hikki536 (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 09:02

*Plays Surfaris' "Wipeout"*

Don't you also have a pair of glasses to protect your mutant eyes, Ananth?

(More importantly, have fun @ Portland! Never been to the west myself... )

Broken Promises

Comment by Broken Boy (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 09:39

Hey, I just remembered we still haven't seen any pictures of George and his undying smile yet!

I mean, it would be horrible if George and his smile got reduced to ashes before we ever got to see the real thing.

You must immortalize it before this horrid prophecy comes true! (please)

Still the same

Comment by Callmeshirlie (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:47

How much you wanna bet he'll be a comic cartoon in real-life?
The smile is too constant to be REAL. :)

See this?

Comment by Hikki536 (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:29

THIS is why Marvel should've never paired him up with Emma Frost. I can't imagine him screaming for Emma's name like that T_T

It's playing in my head right now, and it. sounds. so. weird <_<

Comment by Fraoch (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 13:54

Yeah that doesn't sound right...

Comment by Hikki536 (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 18:15

No, it's not working out. Besides, the chemistry? I don't see it between them anyway. :-/

Bring back jeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaan!!! D:

Logan's probably going to be

Comment by BurntToShreds (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 17:01

Logan's probably going to be getting some of them both behind Scott's back anyways.

In Portland

Comment by Matt K (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:46

You guys should check out Powell's City of Books if you haven't before. 68,000 sq feet of books is my idea of paradise.

It's totally on the list!

Comment by Ananth Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:43

It's totally on the list!

I lived out in Portland for

Comment by Brian (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 01:51

I lived out in Portland for a brief time. I remember Powell's. You have to love a bookstore that gives out free maps of the store! Because otherwise you'd get lost. Seriously.

Have you guys fixed the dead scanner? Technology sucks sometimes.

The totally ace @dharma_punx

Comment by Ananth Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:44

The totally ace @dharma_punx also lives in Brooklyn and gave us a great deal on a good scanner - problem solved! :D

Yay Portland!

Comment by archiValerie (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 13:05

I've been lurking awhile and have loved all of the anecdotes and character designs here. Johnny Wander is why I don't hate Tuesday and Thursday (although I guess I saw this Tuesday's comic late).

I would like to second, or third all of the above suggestions. You guys are making me homesick (as I am not currently in Portland). Enjoy Portland!

Noooo! You have unleashed

Comment by Fraoch (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 13:51

Noooo! You have unleashed the Ananth-lasers upon us all!

Comment by Sophie (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 04:33

My bad.

Rose City

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:19

Man, you guys gotta go to Portland while I'm not there? You need to check out Bread & Ink on Hawthorne. Best burgers in the city.

Comment by Callmeshirlie (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:44

I knew that Ananth was distantly related to Scott Summers somehow!! Probably the lack of visible eyeballs is what gave it away...

Cool beans!

Comment by Samm Neiland (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 15:59

How are you guys enjoying the Pacific Northwest? The overcast skies, the constant threat of rain, isn't it awesome? ;D

Groc Brostar

Comment by Skie (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 16:07

Er-. Wait-. That's bad. :(

Now George can finally be laid to rest.
The ballad of Groc Brostar is complete.

I'm sorry but that's just

Comment by Jamie (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 17:27

I'm sorry but that's just brilliant, and probably too likely..

Comment by Razor (not verified) Wed, 03/03/2010 - 20:52

I lose more friends that way.

(hilarious! Great job, Sophie!)

Comment by Sophie (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 04:34

Thanks Razor!

The last panel would be

Comment by Fletcher (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 01:45

The last panel would be *even better* if George's grin was still there in the pile of ashes along with his glasses.

I'm sure that

Comment by Hikki536 (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 03:32

I'm sure that somewhere in those pile of ashes, there's a set of teeth buried underneath.

Comment by Sophie (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 04:36

I thought about that, but then I decided that it was unrealistic... although now thinking about it it seems silly to debate realism in a comic where someone is incinerated with an optic blast. *sigh*

I love this entry. would

Comment by Lizzy Goldstein (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 03:04

I love this entry. would love to see more.!

Comment by Denham (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 03:56

This comic totally reminds me from that scene in Loom (old-school LucasArts SCUMM game), where the hero is revealed. And that is awesome all-round.

So it's true.

Comment by Ducky (not verified) Thu, 03/04/2010 - 16:44

Ananth's related to Scott Summers. Except instead of a visor, it's a hat. And instead of a red laser of doom, it's blue, incinerating fire.

if I see you guys here, I'll

Comment by matt (not verified) Fri, 03/05/2010 - 02:46

if I see you guys here, I'll probably hang around awkwardly, and then finally say, "so, you're those people from that one comic." no promised, though.

go get a sammich at east side

Comment by matt (not verified) Fri, 03/05/2010 - 02:48

Actually, seriously, portland tip for those of you not in the know - do yourself and go get a sandwich from East Side Deli, on upper SE Hawthorne. The best goddamn sandwiches ever in the history of everything, and I consider myself a bit of a sandwich man. The BEST goddamn sandwiches. Get you one.

This is the best answer to

Comment by dAN (not verified) Fri, 03/05/2010 - 16:10

This is the best answer to What Happens If The Hat Comes Off. In fact, it's now canonical.
