a new paradigm

a new paradigm

Thu, 05/20/2010 - 17:09 by Ananth in response to an alternate interpretation

We were in Boston a few weeks back for ROFLcon, and in the evening we had the opportunity to grab dinner with Ming, EmmyNeil and Jamie. We went to Wagamama - try the apple-lime juice and their desserts, they are pretty tasty. Afterwards they showed us around town a bit and then we bid each other adieu for the night ... in the midst of our farewells, Neil dropped this knowledge on us.

The remaining Pony Rocks will be in the store next Tuesday. We're going to get back to work - have a good weekend!

This is why it should just be okay for guys to normal hug. Hell, I'm gay and find anything extra totally awkward an unnecessary :U

Can I... ask for royalties ...without implicitly condoning it?

I totally love you guys:) I came here following a link from Questionable Content and I've been hooked on you guys too ever since! keep up the great work because I, and I know a lot of others, am totally loving it:)
Thanks for dealing with my fan girl moment, but anyway, I am proud to say that, as a girl, I have done the bro hug. Severly messed it up- but done the bro hug nonetheless:)

mmmm

Comment by Emi (not verified) Thu, 05/20/2010 - 18:59

Oh my goddddd, Wagamama. Is it not amazing? It's a huge chain in the UK, and I ate there all the time when I was in London. I miss it so. I'd love to check out the new US location; if only it would expand...

OMG!! Aren't Emmy and Neil the nicest kids ever! XD

Why I remember when they were still in elementary/middle school and were in the comicbook art classes I was teaching at the local art studio XDehe I KNEW those kids were so full of raw natural talent that they'd be stars some day...STARS I SAY!!! XD and look at them now!! All grown up and saving China...er being STARS! XD I love watching young artists growing up and really REALLY making a name for themselves with said talents in this crazy world of ours! ^_^<3

Tis wickedly fantastic that they grace your MIGHTY FINE Johnny Wanderer pages!! ^_^V Many props as always to you two, Yuko and Ananth!! XD But of course, your works are ALWAYS wickedly fantastic! ^_^<3

*skitters off back to her drawing board and continues drawing...bear comics...to pay the bills*:P

Wagamamaaaaaaaa

Comment by ??? (not verified) Thu, 05/20/2010 - 19:39

Ah. One thing I miss from living in Boston: Chilling out having noodles with friends at Wagamama. Especially the one in Harvard Square (the one in Quincy Market...is in Quincy Market). I like the orange-passion fruit juice a little more, but the Apple-Lime Juice is still good.

It's totally exactly what I

Comment by Kristina (not verified) Thu, 05/20/2010 - 22:38

It does seem a little more intimate. You guys are constantly opening my eyes to new things. :)

You got to hang out with

Comment by Abby Normal (not verified) Thu, 05/20/2010 - 23:01

You got to hang out with Emmy and Neil! Lucky!

Hmm... I don't know...

Comment by Hikki536 (not verified) Fri, 05/21/2010 - 00:12

There's the bro hug, and then there's that kiss-on-both-cheeks that you see a lot of people do in Europe. Which one seems more intimate?

The Thing with Bro Hugs

Comment by PenInHand (not verified) Fri, 05/21/2010 - 01:06

From an outsider's perspective, I've always thought the point of that whole hand holding ritual was to uphold a sense of solidarity whilst keeping physical contact of the chests down to a minimum. The thing is bro hugging doesn't really work for girls too well because of the boobs and what not.

Lesson: never attempt a bro-hug as a female. Then again why would you want to seeing as they are kind of bizarre to watch...
o.O

I've bro-hugged a man

Comment by Origamigryphon (not verified) Tue, 05/25/2010 - 07:10

I've bro-hugged a man before, but I'm flat chested enough to accomplish it without major damage XD

If ever I were to be able to

Comment by Casiopium (not verified) Fri, 05/21/2010 - 02:32

If ever I were to be able to get to a con or whatever where you guys were, I'd want to hug because hugs are awesome (and I'd secretly be getting a second hand hug from Neil).

But really I'd just stand at a distance and wish I could hug.

*sends hug vibes*

sweeeet. xD plus, getting to

Comment by freakypencils (not verified) Fri, 05/21/2010 - 05:02

sweeeet. xD

plus, getting to hang out with Neil and Emmy is just awesome.

Bear Hug > Bro Hug

Comment by Joe (not verified) Fri, 05/21/2010 - 07:36

My policy on hugging is the same as my policy on handshakes. If I don't have them in a death grip, I'm not doing it right. Bear Hugs are the best hugs.

I always thought the Bro Hug just physically felt awkward, but now I can see that it's because I've always just done it wrong. I've always used a normal handshake, which leads to elbows sticking out at an uncomfortable angle when you go in close.

Aww, you were in Boston

Comment by White Rhino (not verified) Fri, 05/21/2010 - 15:49

Aww, you were in Boston recently? Curse me and my inability to read stuff before it's in the past. D=

I live like an hour away...

Excellent!

Neil is an awesome, awesome

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Sun, 05/23/2010 - 23:13

Neil is an awesome, awesome guy. Then again, I've been a fan since the Animutations days. He's really remained relevant in a medium that is known for such quick turnover, he's like a renaissance man in that respect. Glad you guys got to hang out with him!

Neil Cicierega!

Comment by Jesper (not verified) Mon, 05/24/2010 - 07:59

Oh man, that's Neil Cicierega? He's been my hero since way back when I used to be a HP fanboy. And then came Lemon Demon. Awesome!

I've found you must do it

Comment by Kourtney (not verified) Mon, 05/24/2010 - 22:26

I've found you must do it quickly, otherwise the awkward lingering ruins it, and you get above result. I may not be a bro, but I can do the bro hug with skill.

On another, different note, Sunday was my graduation, and as I was walking down the aisle for pictures, a sudden bolt of secondhand inspiration hit me. Thank Conrad for the inspiration, my Upside Down Diploma got the front page (and made me queen of the Grad Party)!
