Yum
We've gotten into the habit of watching Bones over dinner, which is often problematic because every episode opens with the grossest, most graphic corpse you can imagine. Each show seems to be out to one up the previous in this regard, and it's become a contest around the apartment to force ourselves to eat through these sequences. Despite our endurance training, when we hit this episode (called The Boneless Bride) we found ourselves facing a challenge - a creative corpse, sure, but we were also eating cold soba and the parallels on-screen and in our mouths hit a little too close to home.

No, it's worse... O.o

and here I thought this was a dick joke
Comment by Spizzy (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 15:15I think the only thing that has disgusted me enough to not want to eat after/while seeing it was just copious amounts of physical pain, or already being sick. Gross things on tv fall into either "can watch it" or "can't watch it" there's just some shit I don't want to see. And then they say video games are what's wrong with the media.
About the only thing that
Comment by Cheri (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 15:17About the only thing that makes me feel sick while watching on TV is animal cruelty and exploding puss bubbles and the like.
I also got kind of sick while watching The Fly where he's fighting everything by throwing up on it...
It's sad...
Comment by Krimson (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 15:32Before I even got to the third panel, I knew you guys were watching Bones, and I knew exactly what episode you were watching.
I ADMIT IT, I AM A BONEHEAD. (I seriously love that show much. I schedule my classes around it. I'm not kidding.)
Also, I've been known to wolf down meatloaf while watching that show just fine. My roommate would just stare at me in disbelief because I am a crazy person.

But generally I can stand stuff that, for instance, most of my family is bothered by.
Crime dramas and dinner
Comment by Walter (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:14I can do it most of the time, but there is always one episode every so often that makes you take a step away from whatever your eating and you have to wait till the commercial to resume your dinner.
Fourthed! I can also eat
Comment by Fred (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 00:49Fourthed!
I can also eat through that show, although there have been some where I've looked at what I was eating, felt my stomach go "Hm...", shrugged, and kept eating.
"Hm..."
Comment by minetruly (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 16:40The only thing on Bones that has disgusted me at all was the maggots in the blender. I squirm a little and have to put the thought out of my head before I can continue eating. To each their own, I suppose.
finally! someone who understands!
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Wed, 06/15/2011 - 14:59me too! i knew it was the boneless bride in the river, and then i remembered the whole episode! (am i the only person who can eat while looking directly at bones?)

Comment by Knowhack (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 15:33No one is just plain murdered in DC, they're always...raped, deep fried and eaten too.
I do this too. All the time.

Comment by Joy (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 15:42I remember one that had a corpse sealed into a wine barrel...and they discovered it after a wine tasting...the wine was all jellyfied and the bones were rubbery from the high acid and fermentation process..
Didn't really make me want any wine...
Yeah, my husband has banned
Comment by Jody (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 15:59Yeah, my husband has banned me from watching anything while we're eating. Bones, Fringe and CSI are my favorite shows, LOL. The balloon head episode was great, though. :)

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:08for the first two panels i seriously thought it was john talking. It's just the kind of thing I've come to expect from him

Glad to know I'm not the only one...
Comment by Jess (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:21Glad to know I'm not the only one who does this! My roomies and I watch CSI, Bones, Fringe, etc. all the time during meals (mainly dinner) and we always ask ourselves, "Why do we watch these kinds of shows while we're eating?" but nothing ever changes though haha~
I do the exact same thing,
Comment by KittyMaverick (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:25I do the exact same thing, and everyone who ends up watching it with me will almost always scream "HOW can you still eat?!" at some point...
My answer? "...It's only special effects!"
Almost as bad.
Comment by Skie (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:29I, too, was eating a noodle-meal while watching that episode. Unfortunately, my roommates wanted to try out an experimental pasta sauce recipe that night.
It was a thin sauce with a blood red color.
After the success of the recipe and the vivid detail of the episode, it was dubbed noodle bones in blood.
I didn't finish my meal that night.
Did any of you?
Vanguard (TV series) - Toilet Crisis
Comment by Sprinkles ☠! (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:36The other day my husband and I had some friends over, and while we were eating I flipped on the Vanguard episode I recorded the day before, "World's Toilet Crisis." If you haven't seen it, it pretty much covers the public defication happening in other countries, and it shows people while they do their number 2's, as well as all the number 2's on the ground (and nothing is censored).
I'm amused, and little worried for myself, for the fact that I can stomach things a lot better than everyone I know in person. Because I'm the only person that ate through what we saw, and they had me change the show 5 minutes into it.
I always watch Bones or CSI:
Comment by MissKacey (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:46I always watch Bones or CSI: Las Vegas over dinner XD
Ditto
Comment by Anne (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:46I do this exact same thing, and every time I do, I question myself.
Thanks for the laugh... I even know that episode. /gag
Yup...
Comment by Geneva Rosett-Hafter (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:56I have the same thing. My girlfriend and I always eat dinner or breakfast watching NCIS or any of the CSI's...regularly as we watch them on Demand5 online!
Often we have to pause whilst eating and let it pass. The worst was eating spaghetti bolognese. Not the best combo with blood and guts.
I love that show, but that
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 17:35I love that show, but that is ballsy of you for eating while watching it.
Never explain a joke
Comment by Ian K (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 17:37Did you really have to add the Buckley Box at the end? How your faces were illustrated was enough to show the joke.
What's a Buckley Box?

Comment by Fixing Time (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 17:48Tim Buckley's CAD is known for over-explaining jokes and is always too wordy while doing it - either with more speech balloons or narrator boxes.

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 17:53I am with most of these folks - My husband and I are in the middle of season 4 and we always watch it while we eat. Most of time it is ok, but every now and again we have an issue. I love it :)
DUDE
Comment by lisa (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 18:12I DO THE EXACT SAME THING MAN! I always watch Bones over dinner, which is totally disgusting but awesome.
Hurgh
Comment by Razor (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 18:15My mom loves Bones. I admit I think it's pretty clever as well, along with CSI, etc, but I sometimes think we'd do better to go back to the "let's leave this to your imagination" kind of thing. I remember the beginning of the old Quincy, M.E. show, where he lifts the sheet off a body (the camera only sees the sheet) and five uniformed cops fall over in a faint.
My DH is infamous for turning on Law & Order: SVU at 7:00a when I'm trying to get ready for work. SVU is my favorite of all the L&O franchise but I can't handle that much angst and wrong so early.
John's face
Comment by Lancer2010 (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 18:31I love how John's face basically acts as a gauge in this comic. As the show gets more graphic his frown gets bigger.
is it sad?
Comment by Jennifer (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 18:40that i knew exactly what show and episode that was? that i could tell you how the body was found and during what season it's in, and who did it?

Comment by Sophie (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 18:59Oh my god, I love Bones! I have to say though, I don't anything in that show tops the episode with the liquified human remains in the bathtub. I'm not sure where that comes in the series but if you're not there yet, just wait.
Bones is also responsible for my desire to constantly insert the phrase "dancing phalanges!" into conversations.
I do this all the time, but
Comment by Sepia (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 20:32I do this all the time, but with Dexter or CSI: Miami, or something of the like. Or just horror movies.
My boyfriend and I aren't phased by mostly anything though, so it's the same as watching a kid's show to me while I eat.
I remember that episode *cringe*
Comment by Fraoch (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 20:53My family stopped watching CSI during dinner a long time ago for the same reason. Blegh.
We stick to NCIS and Bones, mainly because any gore is balanced out by the funny.
zackaroni and hodge-podge!
Comment by katt (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 21:34i love their king of the lab competitions. bones is an excellent show in general.
<3 Bones
Comment by calyx (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 22:17I absolutely love that show and know exactly which episode you're talking about! (quite sure others have said that too already)
I'm also pretty sure I was eating and thought it was the COOLEST thing ever when they did blow the head up to see who it was. SO awesome.
Always eat while watching shows
Comment by Kristina (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 22:43I also have a tendency to eat while watching Bones or Fringe. Though there was one time I was completely and utterly hung over to the point of almost vomiting when a particular Bones episode came on and the scene was so gruesome I almost threw up on my computer. That was the only time, other than that I can stomach shows like that.
We were just talking about
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 06/17/2010 - 23:19We were just talking about this, like three hours ago, while watching Bones, and eating. Probably right after you posted this.

Comment by Jan (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 00:11Nooooo!!! I do the same thing, always Bones for lunch. Horrible thing. But I still do it.
Did John replace that
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 00:26Did John replace that roommate who was introduced with Mike, or is he just never around?
John's facial expressions
Comment by Danreiv (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 00:35John's facial expressions are so priceless. Made my day.
OMG BONES! I love that show!
Comment by Liz (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 02:07OMG BONES! I love that show! I love how those kids are always doing stupid things in the name of science. :)
Ugggh!
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 02:48I decided to look up what you guys were talkin bout and was thorougly disgusted. Probably made that famous internet meme 'Black guy Epicface' when i saw the first bit.
Nice!
Comment by Juiz (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 08:07This is just like me :D Too bad it ain't so popular in Finland so I have to watch it alone, not even my g/f wants to watch it w/ me, but whatever... They don't know what they're missing :3 Bones is the best <3
And..
Comment by Juiz (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 08:10It took me several seasons to realize, that it's pretty strange to eat while watching bones, especially when it takes me about 5-10 minutes to eat and the juiciest parts are shown in those 5-10 minutes :D
