We've gotten into the habit of watching Bones over dinner, which is often problematic because every episode opens with the grossest, most graphic corpse you can imagine. Each show seems to be out to one up the previous in this regard, and it's become a contest around the apartment to force ourselves to eat through these sequences. Despite our endurance training, when we hit this episode (called The Boneless Bride) we found ourselves facing a challenge - a creative corpse, sure, but we were also eating cold soba and the parallels on-screen and in our mouths hit a little too close to home.

PaleontoLOLgy and ZooLOLogy tees are back in stock! Hit the sidebar there or click below.

Have a good weekend guys! We'll catch you next week.

Yes, when you put it that way, it DOES sound pretty... strange? Worrisome? Disturbed? Suitable for the profile of a serial killer who cannibalizes his victims?

Although you get some surprise grossness later on in some episodes, like the frozen pig being fed through the wood chipper or the maggots being pureed in the blender.

Ludicrous Gibs

This reminds me of a time when I was watching Munich with a friend while eating a huge plate of spaghetti. Then we got to the part where they plant a bomb under a guys bed and he gets reduced to a soupy, stringy pile of goo and guts. We couldn't eat spaghetti for weeks after that.

Yay Bones!

Comment by Anjerz (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 13:31

It makes me so happy that you guys did a Bones reference. I don't know why.
I think the worst corpse they've ever done was the guy who got crushed behind the gym bleachers. That one was pretty wild.

Me and my boyfriend do this

Comment by Zyn (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 13:43

Me and my boyfriend do this ALL THE TIME. XD We'll download whole seasons of shows to watch, and right now we're on Bones Season 4, and usually we'll eat while we watch stuff...

Last night, for instance, there was a guy trapped under a frozen lake, and his face was all discolored and disfigured, I had to look away every time they showed it before I gagged. x_x Usually I'm okay with most of the stuff, the rotted skulls don't bother me as much as disfigured faces do.

Also, my aunt and my dad watch a lot of TV and they always make it a point never to watch Bones during a meal :P

We watch Bones with dinner, too!

Comment by minetruly (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 16:25

I recognized the episode before I even finished the comic! The last panel confirmed it!

It's the one with the boneless bride and the Chinese wedding, right?

When Bones was on at 6:00, we used to watch it every night with dinner, too. For some reason, the horrifying condition of the bodies never bothered us. "Oh, his body was forced through a grate? Pass the salt."

I KNEW IT!

Comment by Y? (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 17:18

When I read the comic I knew the exact episode you guys were talking about! =) I was just waiting to comment but other people got here first =/ I once was trying to eat a bloody steak while watching Bones. I learned my lesson. No more food that resembles human remains while eating. Veggies are fine.

Count me in!

It's nice to know I'm not alone in watching gruesome tv while eating, especially Bones. I always thought it was just a bit of weird habit of mine. The gore never really bothers me, but the only time I really had to question myself was while watching an episode of Criminal Minds, where the killer scooped out his victim's eyeballs... I was eating poached eggs at the time :S

Lotta people tell me they

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 20:22

Lotta people tell me they find my cast-iron stomach disturbing. I tell 'em it's based in plenty of practice due to my mom having an almost fetishistic love for medical shows, but regardless, I've sat through Final Destination 2 during dinner with a large plate of spaghetti just fine.

I did wind up getting upset stomach later, but that was more due to tainted salad. I had some fun dreams that night though.

Conditioned Responses

Comment by Inara (not verified) Fri, 06/18/2010 - 23:27

I've watched so much CSI while eating dinner/snacking that I've accidentally conditioned myself to be hungry while watching police procedural shows. My first response to an autopsy should **not** be "I'm gonna make popcorn, who wants some?"!!

Bones

Comment by Armaina (not verified) Sat, 06/19/2010 - 00:02

Haha man do I love Bones. Wasn't it great in that one episode, where they pulled a guy out of a vat of used cooking oil, and he was all falling apart as they pulled him out? Mmm reminds you of that tender Crock Pot chicken where the meat falls right off the bones :D *bricked*

I watch it when I'm eating too, though it usually helps when I think 'those are some awesome special effects' rather than trying to translating it into a more real context.

<3 Bones + Dinner

Comment by Toreshi (not verified) Sat, 06/19/2010 - 02:44

^_^ I don't really see the problem with eating dinner while watching Bones.
... though I am a scientist-in-training a bit like Zack... only... not male and not half so naive

I love Bones! I was watching

Comment by Louise (not verified) Sat, 06/19/2010 - 11:12

I love Bones! I was watching it once with my parents eating a lasagne that looked exactly like the melted human gloop on the episode... didn't put me off though. I was more put off by the hanging meat carcasses on one of the advertisements during the break :P

You know, this happens to me

Comment by Alex (not verified) Sat, 06/19/2010 - 11:17

You know, this happens to me all the time, I'll sit down to have a meal, and because I live by myself I'd like some sound while I eat so I'll just pop in a DVD and just start watching and for some reason it is always Bones I'm watching while eating... at first it bothered me, but by now I think I've grown jaded.

...

Comment by Rose (not verified) Sat, 06/19/2010 - 12:44

I will honestly say that I can eat through almost anything. I am terribly, terribly desensitized. It's quite sad, really.

I'm serious though. My friends made me sit through 2girls1cup and I was eating oatmeal while watching it without even flinching. As for corpses... no, can still eat through grotesque things quite like that. :|

But but but. . .

Those shows are so awesome! D: And Bones is by far the best! <3 Cameron

Man, a lot of you watch Bones! Cool.

And a lot of you have cast-iron stomachs, sheesh!

Comment by PT (not verified) Sun, 06/20/2010 - 01:49

John's expression?

Seriously, I really enjoyed it.

Anyway, Bones, oh god, I haven't seen that show in a while...
Not sure if they still do new episodes. I like CSI:NY more than Bones but I like Bones better than CSI:Miami due to many reasons. (One of them is because I ain't a pun lover and every time I hear one, I slap myself on the forehead...)

Now I am thinking of shows that I wouldn't watch while eating. I am guessing anything bug related, mostly roaches, would kill my appetite for a while...That or Dirty Jobs in Discovery Channel.

I have a weak stomach =_=.....

PS. Anyone got shows they wouldn't watch while eating? I am interested to know.

Hehe. I love Bones, enough

Comment by Kathryn (not verified) Sun, 06/20/2010 - 10:37

Hehe. I love Bones, enough that I bought seasons 1-4 on dvd. Head inflation was not the most gross thing that happened on that show, but it was quite fun. =D

Besides, forensic anthropology is awesome dinner table subjects! xD

I love your comics

Comment by Rachel (not verified) Sun, 06/20/2010 - 14:27

I just read through every single one of your comics. Pretty much every single one of them made me laugh out loud. When I move out(when I'm a little older) I hope I have fun friends to rent places with.

I really like the Comics about your cats, and I really liked the one with the brain damaged owl.

I love your drawings Yuko

Please continue posting comics.

Comment by monikoko (not verified) Mon, 06/21/2010 - 11:24

I would love to have a bag with zooLOLogy D:

I always watch "how I met your mother" while dinner.
If you will keep watching Bones and eat at the same time you will be able to eat pretty much anything :P

Ps. I have just red whole archive and I LOVED it! You guys have an amazing stories to tell :D

So glad you enjoyed it! A

So glad you enjoyed it! A bag, we'll have to think about that. :D

Your art is cute!

Comment by Caspar (not verified) Mon, 06/21/2010 - 16:13

I watch gross stuff while eating too... though it's usually surgery videos. I'm in the veterinary field and watch all kinds of new/different surgeries. That or CSI, Grey's anatomy, Untold Stories from the ER, etc. And of course, zombie movies. Try eating pad thai and watching a horse get a bone plate removed from it's nose!

Also - I ordered three of your tshirts on thursday and they just got here this morning! They look excellent and I was shocked at how fast they got here! The fit is amazing! I'm a fairly thin girl, but with an hourglass figure, it's hard to find clothes that fit as they should - I love these! =D

Wanted to ask as well if you guys were coming up here to Toronto for Fanexpo in August?

Anyway - awesome shirts! Thanks so much!

Comment by Ananth Tue, 06/22/2010 - 13:59

Yuko has the same build as you, which is secretly why I like to stock a few XS - it's really just an excuse to get her a fitted one of our shirts. ;)

I'm glad everyone's getting their tees so quickly! There was a little while there when I was sending orders out a little slowly, but I'm back to sending them out every 2-3 days.

We sadly won't be at Fanexpo - our next show is in Maryand in the US - SPX! If all goes well we'll have the JW book ready by then.

Glad you like the shirts! Thank YOU!

I love how everyone's

I love how everyone's reaction is the same--disgust--except John, who gets ANGRY.

Haha, the Boneless Bride...

Comment by ai_hiroyuki (not verified) Tue, 06/22/2010 - 06:43

I swear I was so disgusted with Hodgins but still In Love with him at the same time when I saw that ep. I still laughed afterwards though... xD

Why the heck aren't you guys

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 06/22/2010 - 10:54

Why the heck aren't you guys watching the World Cup????!!!!

ZZZZZZZzzzzZZZzzzzz

Comment by Ananth Tue, 06/22/2010 - 14:00

We're keeping tabs on it and catch a game here and there! If we watched the entire WC we'd never get any work done. ;) USA vs. Slovenia ... ouch.

TWO THINGS

Comment by Becca (not verified) Tue, 06/22/2010 - 12:44

1) You got me my paleontololgy shirt in less than two weeks. Good work guys, I'm impressed!

2) You folded it into a triangle. Like I asked. AND I TOLD EVERYONE HOW AWESOME THAT IS.

The end. Thank you again, you guys are the best.

 We definitely read those

Comment by Ananth Tue, 06/22/2010 - 14:01

We definitely read those notes. ;) Glad we could oblige ... we figured you had a weird mailbox.

Actually saw this recently

Comment by Diana (not verified) Wed, 06/23/2010 - 01:42

This episode was actually airing on Sunday night. My parents didn't get why I cracked up laughing at something so gruesome until I showed them this comic.

I'm yet another among the ranks of people unfazed by gross shows when eating. I also watch Bones, CSI and Law & Order:SVU while eating.

Me and my g/f watch Bones

Comment by Luciferbob (not verified) Fri, 06/25/2010 - 02:46

Me and my g/f watch Bones every evening while eating dinner... I remember this exact same episode =D =D =D

I was watching Bones just now...

Comment by Kiley B. (not verified) Fri, 06/25/2010 - 22:11

It's the episode where the first victim of the cannibal serial killer, Gormagon (I doubt that's how it's spelled), the violin player is found. Anyway in the end they're interviewing the guy with a diamond tipped tooth and he says "It's not like chicken or pork, more like beef... except babies, babies taste like FISH"

and of course at that moment I happened to have chomped up a forkful of salmon...

I felt so guilty eating my food after that xD

I know the feeling, our

Comment by Colin (not verified) Tue, 07/06/2010 - 12:49

I know the feeling, our family used to watch ER during dinner and every time we'd be like "Why do we watch this while eating!?!?!"

Mm-mmm

Comment by Jenny Creed (not verified) Wed, 07/07/2010 - 12:44

Reminds me of when I first watched Peter Jackson's Bad Taste. We had some pretty sloppy icecream just when the porridge scene came up.

If you don't know what that means, let's just say the aliens in the movie take great pleasure in recycling their food.

Bones

Comment by JustinFraggle (not verified) Fri, 01/07/2011 - 10:28

John Francis Daly, a regular on Bones grew up with me. Or rather, I grew up with him. We were pretty tight as kids. It's cool to see people I'm a fan of being fans of someone I grew up with. Kudos to you and your good taste!
