Surprise kitten

the extended ballad of laundry cat

Surprise kitten happened a month ago, and flipped our life upside down for a few weeks. We initially weren't sure if we were going to keep her, but then she and Rook became pals so that decided that. I'm sure we'll post some more comics about her in the next few weeks!

Oh, I just wanted to say ... you guys are my bros. Thanks for believing me about that wasp.

Oh my goodness, she is EXACTLY the way you drew her! What happened that she needed to leave the laundromat?

She definitely found a wonderful home. I am waiting anxiously for pictures of her and Rook being pals, FYI. :D

This is startlingly similar to how I got my cat. When I was 5, our across-the-street neighbors came by with this teeny little cat and handed it to my mom. They said they needed someone to take her because they were moving back into their apartment (they lived in the house across the street as a summer home...quite posh, indeed) and they couldn't take another animal, so we were getting this cat because they knew we would take care of it...and, they said, if we didn't take her they'd drive her into the hills and drop her somewhere to be eaten by any number of woodland nasties. Mom did the honorable thing and the cat's been here for 15 years :)

We named her Micia, which is Friulano for Kitty. You might want to name her some language-version of Surprise. Sorpresa, perhaps?

The way you draw laundry cat is spot on. It's surprising how I would be able to point and say "yes, this cat" given this comic's style of simplicity an relative vagueness of cats in general.

I always look forward to hearing your portrayal of the world around.

... Why did the laundromat that you guys have been going to for years suddenly decide they couldn't have Laundry Cat anymore, and that you had to take her?

I'm glad kitty got a good home with you guys and all, but seriously, who just pawns kitties off on people? They're not old sweaters, they're animals.

To be fair, the cat doesn't look more than a few months old. She may have wandered into there a month or so before this happened. Or maybe the owner received the cat somehow and was like "crap, I can't take care of a cat."

And you'd be surprised. I've seen people leave rabbits and cats on the front porch of pet stores in the dead of winter overnight, and once my dad find a box of kittens on the side of the road. Some people have no concern for animals' well-being.

This kitten alone wins all the internets! <3 If she DOES have a name yet, I bet it's ADORABLE.

I remember when I got my cat, Max. I was looking for another cat and I was going to adopt one from my parent's (their cat, Boo, had two), but one had not made it and they wanted to keep the other one. Then, the day after, it's like fate, my co-worker tells me she either has to bring her cat back to the SPCA or find a home for it. I willingly took him and he's a wonderful addition. :)

I like how Evan's moustache makes him look like he's smiling in the second to last panel. You all have faces of shock, but he looks amused and happy to be given Laundry Cat. It's cute. :)

Everyone seems to be thinking up names to match Rook or other such foolishness, but I think if a name is still up in the air, it's only appropriate to name her Sagan. She seems to be genuinely struck with awe at the entirety of the universe around her, probably 24/7. It also follows the trend of using last names as girls' first names.

Of course, it's been a month, so she probably has a name already. Dammit, guess I've gotta name my next (first) cat Sagan!

She's pretty adorable, I love how big her eyes are. And it's nice that she and Rook get along. My family used to foster cats and kittens for the animal shelter, and our house cat wasn't too fond of that idea.

I think I found out her name, and if I'm right, I think it's totally adorable and suits her perfectly. C:
