A cat video

A cat video

Thu, 08/11/2011 - 16:49 by Ananth in response to the surest path to friendship

All in all it took them about a week to warm up to each other. Here's a video Yuko made of Rook ... tolerating the kitten.

Yuko has finally crossed over from cat-video watcher ... to cat-video maker. No more comics, just cat videos. Sorry guys. How the heck am I going to print cat videos in a book? I'm ruined.

That's all from us! We gotta get back to work (volume 2 is coming along nicely). See you next week!

I am okay with this.

PS: Rook is a lot bigger than I had imagined.

Perfectly OK with the video-making. So fun to compare the comics and the real thing . . .
And if you are becoming a videographer, Yuko, perhaps you could catch Laundry Cat's chirrup for the catless among us to enjoy?

I too wish to hear the "chirrup." I am intrigued, because I have never heard a cat make a sound such as "chirrup."

Dwaaa, Rook wants to play...

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 08/12/2011 - 09:18

Well this finally pulled me into commenting.
That is so cute, you could tell that Rook was enticing the little one to play the game. And the pounce when they got onto the cushions which left Rook on top had him (or is it a her, I forget) seem to say, I win...

Also. Work out a better system on your power cords. That's a Fire/Trip hazard there...

I'm sick

I got diabeetus from this...

Thanks!

Comment by Maru (not verified) Fri, 08/12/2011 - 11:12

I'm not sure the "teeny cat" is really a teeny cat, Rook is just friggin' huge. I haven't seen many cats the take up an ENTIRE arm of a sofa. Doesn't stop them all from trying though...

It's strange for me to see

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 08/12/2011 - 12:43

It's strange for me to see two cats fighting like that, and hear no noise coming from either of them...

Also, FatCat makes my heart happy.

Too cute!

Awww! They are so cute! Rook looks just like my cat Sirax! :3

More cat vids?

Comment by myzused (not verified) Fri, 08/12/2011 - 15:13

I love it! So cute. Now...what will the kitten's name be? I suggest "chirrup". lol

Now you need to make a vid of the very tolerable Rook; petting Rook in all the funny ways from that comic awhile ago because I still don't believe it.

Wow, Rook really is totally

Comment by minimus-minor (not verified) Fri, 08/12/2011 - 17:13

Wow, Rook really is totally black. He's like a cat-shaped black hole. Just like in the comics!

It's like I'm watching home movies. We found a siamese kitten on our front porch a couple of months back, and it acts the exact same way with our (previously) youngest cat, a 5 year old tabby named Fidget. Cat's are surprisingly universal.

I love how rook just like lays on top of the kitten trying to get her to stop.
and then when she's off the couch and touches his paw he's all like "What...what did you just do"

O-oh my. I was mesmerized by that video. Sorry, Ananth, you might have to do something about these.

Also, I've never seen a video over 15k views with no dislikes. Screencapped for inevitably-ruined-by-trolls-in-the-near-future posterity.

Prepare yourselves

You may not have crossed any crazy cat lady lines at this point, but you have crossed an invisible line where everyone, EVERYONE, will want to tell you about how much your cat reminds them of their cat and oh their cat, who is named Tiger or Shadow, did the funniest thing and we named it this and would you like to see pictures of course you do I remember having a kitten do you feed your cat this oh that's terrible you should do this instead...

Speaking of which my cat Pigeon did the funniest thing...

I don't have a cat who plays with another nonexistent cat of mine, but I HAVE watched videos of two cats who do exist and HAVE played together in a rough-and-tumble way, and who, coincidentally, ARE owned by people who are not me.

ANYWAY, past the cheek: tiny laundry cat is tiny, at least compared to the larger Rook. Maybe slenderer is the better word. I can't wait to learn his/her name (her, was it...?). I also find it slightly amusing that your Youtube video has in-jokes voted into Highest Rated Comment, which will probably puzzle thousands of other people obliviously clicking on your cat video for merely the cuteness and lulz of it.

I really like that you have a black cat. Some people are so cruel to them just because of that superstition.

I am so jealous.

Comment by mwick (not verified) Sun, 08/14/2011 - 09:23

I kept wondering why people were commenting that Rook is so big. He doesn't seem all that outlandish to me...then, I remembered that the cats we had while I was growing up were freakishly large (and not Maine Coon at all). One of them was a suitable substitute for a blanket during naps on the couch, even while I was in college.

Rook is absolutely beautiful, by the way. His fur looks incredibly soft. Teeny Cat is certainly a handful, but His Calmness seems up to the task of tolerating her.

I am going to join the throngs of people requesting more videos. I get incredibly lonely for a cat, sometimes. I would love to live vicariously with Rook and Teeny Cat. :)

Clearly Rook is more powerful than the Pawn there :P

must admit I'm looking to get a kitten so that Logan has some company while I'm at college/work. But I'm terrified they won't get on lol

Aw!

They obviously love each other. Rook was practically inviting the little kitten to play. And may I say again, aawwwww!!

Comment by Raiser (not verified) Mon, 08/15/2011 - 21:10

The video is adorable. The comic is adorable. The cats are adorable.

ADORABLE x3 COMBO

(Ohsnap! That's a catface emote!)

DOUBLE ADORABLE x3 COMBO!

Homestuck-based gags aside, the cats rubbing on the comic frame set me to giggling like a pile of schoolgirls. Sleep deprivation -may- factor into this, but I like to think not.

More on what minimus-minor mentioned (muh muh muh muh need more Ms in that sentence), I would like to put forth the theory that Rook is gigantic BECAUSE he is a feline black-hole, and is actually several inches smaller, and just appears bigger 'cause light can't escape his advent horizon. Or something sufficiently pseudo-scientific. (First Ms, now Sssses. Sheesh.)

Extension cord

Comment by wei (not verified) Mon, 08/15/2011 - 23:35

So to start off great cat video, but I couldn't help but see in the video what looks to be an extension cord plugged into a power strip? That doesn't seem safe.

I think you need at least 3

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 08/16/2011 - 00:12

I think you need at least 3 more cats dropped off at your apartment before you can claim the status of crazy-cat lady. That's what happened to my friend. One of her house mates owned a cat; another one adopted a kitten and three more dropped their cats off at their house asking if they could take them while they go here or there; one of the three is now a permanent addition to the house and has official given the house the nickname of Kitty Daycare House.

Cats!

Comment by Julia (not verified) Tue, 08/16/2011 - 11:55

So cute, so cute. Man, I'm gonna join in with the chorus and say that Rook looks quite a bit like my own adopted cat-friend. We think he must have a bit of bombay cat in him, because he looks like a little panther.

I have a tuxedo kitten just like your new one. ('Cept I bottle fed her and raised her by hand) Her name is Sterling! She's just as much of a trouble maker.

Her favorite pastime is sitting behind my laptop and staring at me from behind it. Then swatting at my hands when she hears me typing. Like now.

Deja Vu!

Comment by Krisocalypse (not verified) Wed, 08/17/2011 - 18:39

I saw this, and was immediately struck by the similarity to my own cats! I have a big black shorthair (Jack, age 3), and just got a tuxedo kitten last month (Frankie, 4 mos). They behaved exactly the same as Rook and your she-kitten! They've reached a sort of grudging acceptance of one another, and spend most of their time together wrestling. :)
