SPX in Bethesda, MD!
I played Uncharted 1 & 2 recently and there is an awful lot of jumping! Actually, there are a lot of video games with an awful lot of jumping, but Un2 tested reality just enough that I began to wonder if I couldn't perhaps make a few jumps myself.
SPX is this weekend! We'll be there with books, prints, catmera charms and whatever else we can bring along! Here's a floor map for your convenience (look for the balloons at D8!):

We're sharing a table with Jamie Noguchi. See you then!

Rook looks bigger
Comment by Heidi (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 16:04Rook looks bigger than he's usually drawn...more to scale. Or I may be imagining it.
Those were my exact thoughts
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 16:19Those were my exact thoughts playing Uncharted 2!

I'm reminded of Azumanga Daioh. Mostly by Yuko grabbing Ananth's hoodie to make sure he doesn't jump off.
ahahahahahaha!!!
Comment by bigwatcher (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 16:39oh you! A friend of mine actually got started on parkour last year, and she says it's the workout of a lifetime. She's in school as a dancer, and does jazz and aerobics, but she told me that the exercise for it was crazy. And apparently it takes a couple years of training to safely jump like what you're talking about.
Real Life testing
Comment by Opus the Poet (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 17:35I suggest using a parking lot and duct tape to mark out the dimensions you would have to jump over/across for your real life testing program.
5 word phrases.
Comment by Lancer2010 (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 17:37This makes me think of Marshall from How I Met Your Mother during the season 4 (I think) finale.
"I can jump that far."
Same thoughts, bro.
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 18:54Same thoughts, bro.
I can assure you...
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 17:50Me and my shattered tibia can assure you that you can not. Can't wait for Uncharted 3 (should be healed up by then).
D: Did you actually fall
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 18:34D: Did you actually fall trying to jump? Concerned (and nosy. mostly nosy) internet denizens want to know!
Yeah I tried jumping between two two-story buildings
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 22:56A strict diet of Mirror's Edge, InFamous, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, and Ninja Warrior is not good for the bones. Also, releasing your bladder halfway across doesn't make you lighter, just wetter.

Dice, too
Comment by Jason (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 19:20I saw the schedule thing on Yuko's tumblr before looking at the comic here. My first thought when I saw D8 was, 'Awesome, eight-sided dice!'
My second thought was, 'Oh, sad face.' after seeing Yuko's comment about it.
If it had been 8D8, my first thought would have obviously been, 'Sweeeeeeeet! Fluorite Octet!' ^___^

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 18:23Ohh you're bringing balloons! I remember mentioning to you at Connecticon you needed something to make your table more noticeable. Balloons will be awesome. I'd draw on them too hehe.

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 18:25Free your mind! You can do it!
Nobody makes the jump the first time.

Ananth is like Peter Parker

Comment by Arif K. (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 21:13When I played Uncharted 2, I've always wondered how Drake has the ability to climb/jump up ladders the way he does. =|
So that's what you're hiding under that cap
Comment by Alain (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 21:59All you have to do is sprout your wings, like Chance D'Estaing, and then you can glide over instead of jumping.
(PS thanks for making me discover the three albums of Freaks' Squeele. They were just waiting there at the public library, all in a pristine condition as if no one had taken them out before)
Maybe somewhere a little
Comment by Kunenk (not verified) Thu, 09/08/2011 - 23:39Maybe somewhere a little closer to the ground first-!
But man, parkour does look kind of like a pretty exciting thing to do.
PS3?
Comment by FinalFantazC (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 00:48You could totally jump that! lol Can I haz ur psn name?

Comment by Bambi (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 09:22Hey, what happened to the Hokusai and CMYcat tees? Will you have them again or they are completely gone? : / Thanks for your answer, sorry to bother you here.

Comment by Mouser (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 10:03Do you guys have a list of conventions you intend on attending in the near future? You always go to Cons I'm not going to ;_;

Comment by stephenix (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 11:45This might be odd but I can TOTALLY see Ananth being all Ezio Auditore all over town.
Do not want
Comment by Soupnazi (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 11:46Replace "Uncharted" with "Mirror's Edge" and I approve.
:P Great comic!
Video Game hops
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 13:13Squats, lunges, calf raise, reverse crunches, and inverted lower back crunches will give you will give you the hops you so desire.
Work your way up to fifty each, then try and to them in less then ten minutes, and then go for twice in one day.
Once you can do the workout twice in one day; you shall be physically prepared to get mad hops. Now go and pursue hops grasshopper!!
Give it a try
Comment by Robert V Aldrich (not verified) Fri, 09/09/2011 - 14:04Not across a street or even an alley. But parkour and similiar activities are a LOT of fun. Just start small and don't bite off more than you can chew.
I Wanna Gooooo

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 09/10/2011 - 20:08Mirror's Edge is closer to parkour, I'd imagine.
A lot of jumping in that one.
Great meeting you guys =)
Comment by Tony (not verified) Sun, 09/11/2011 - 14:27It was great seeing you guys in the flesh and talking to Ananth about breaking into the comics world. We're going to enjoy our print =).

Matrix
Comment by hohhoi (not verified) Sun, 09/11/2011 - 16:45Should I be embarrassed about the fact that I thought of The Matrix when I saw the second panel?
Everybody falls the first time.
Comment by Shoebox (not verified) Sun, 09/11/2011 - 20:30I remember wondering who the hell set-up and maintained all of those one-time use traps and puzzles for Drake to destroy/explode his way through when I played Uncharted 2.
And who killed all those people with conveniently placed grappling hooks and ropes that can hold a person after 60 years being frozen in ice.
You, too?
Comment by Chaz the Weasel (not verified) Sun, 09/11/2011 - 22:37My girlfriend and I are the same way thanks to Assassin's Creed. We'll be watching something on television displaying historical buildings and landmarks and both say to ourselves, "I could climb that." In many cases we've even recognized actual landmarks from pictures and TV because we actually DID have to climb them in game!

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 09/13/2011 - 08:20I am forced to limit my Assassin's Creed aspirations to sitting on benches. I've sat on some of the most famous benches in America like Ezio.
Yeah... That's why I dont' watch spiderman anymore
Comment by Tyler Whitworth (not verified) Mon, 09/12/2011 - 16:56Actually spiderman 3 just kind of ruined the franchise for me. But I do enjoy the idea of jumping from building to building. I guess the Tick does it too. I bet I could
Oh maaaaaaaaaan!
Comment by 0dalesque (not verified) Mon, 09/12/2011 - 18:42I am hoping to go to SOME convention where you guys go to and shake your hands.
All of your hands.
All of them.
comic necromancy
Comment by tahrey (not verified) Tue, 09/13/2011 - 08:05just to say... i finally made my second batch of Ecto Cooler the other day.
As in, I finally have a blender to call my own, and got round to doing the final round of freeze-concentration of the remaining grape juice. Had JUST enough mint left out of some fresh stuff my mum gave me out of her garden. Grabbed some spinach, cheap ginger ale, bag of ice from the supermarket...
Worked well :-) Blended it somewhat harder than we had dared to with my friend's mothers antique liquidiser and made a proper smoothie rather than a slushie. It was a warm sunday afternoon rather than a cool night. Went outside with a book and a tumbler of the stuff (rest went in the fridge to be demolished over the rest of the day) and had an enjoyable chillout on the apartment block's shared lawn. Til it clouded over, brr.
Went inside and experimented adding spirits to it. Vodka was... ok. Whiskey works very nicely. Forgot to dig out the gin and had the last dose straight, after adding a little more spinach and ice. That was maybe a mistake.
Will play about with other variations in future. Maybe fresh ginger? Peppermint? Strawberries / raspberries for a butt-end-of-summer fruit cooler? Chilis and cinnamon for a winter time variation? :-)
Cheers again to Jon for a cool (...ahem) invention.
I've been playing through
Comment by shiny_things (not verified) Tue, 10/18/2011 - 18:00I've been playing through the Assassin's Creed games of late, and now when I walk by the cathedral near my work on my way to get lunch I always think that Altair/Ezio went about that sort of thing entirely the wrong way, and that it *would* be fun to get up on the roof.
