Season Change

winter is coming

Hey all! No punchline today! We left NYC and came to MD just as the season rolled over. The air gets a little crisper and you break out the hoodies and jackets, and that's always a very tangible moment for me and I finally decided to make something of it. We'll get back to the jokes next week!

I know the feeling really well; helps to live in Britain where it can get freeeezing cold. And that's just in the summer! (no lie) This really captures it.
Would you be able to tell me if the title is a Game of Thrones reference please? My house is -slightly- obsessed with it, and this is really going to bug me unnecessarily....

Tell me about it. I live in the coolest part of Vegas and my car says it's still 99 degrees. I thought summer was supposed to be over a week ago!

Dunedin, New Zealand's just turning summer here...The sun's blazing (occasionally?), it rains more instead of hails, and if one's lucky the wind will be blowing from the west instead of the freezing south...

Yeah, I know what you mean. It almost makes me want to move to one of the more populated cities. Except that, y'know, I like MD too much. It's always nice to live somewhere you actually get 4 seasons of weather.

Living in a 2 seasons country, so I never feel this 4 seasons melancholy. All we had is either rainless summer or rainy spring.

Bizarrely given someone's comment above about Britain... it's been blinkin' cold for the past week, but in the past two days the temperatures have gone up 12-15 celcius thanks to a saharan wind blowing up. It's gorgeous... 25-29'C ... just as we're having a huge equipment installation push in a new wing of the building, where the HVAC doesn't yet work, and we were expecting to be chilly... instead it's roasting.

Nice when wandering around outside at lunchtime though.

For those of you still powered by steam, that's 77 to 84'F. Which doesn't sound like much when compared to Arizona et al, but it's a record breaking heatwave for us. It's almost October for heaven's sake!

If it's warm in the UK, particularly outside of "juni juli augusti" (to quote the scandis), you can usually blame a wind blowing up from the african deserts. Look out for your car getting covered in fine dust... that's actually african sand...

Far as I'm concerned it can stay as long as it likes, I needed to give the thing a wash anyway, commuting is normally done on 2 wheels at quite some speed, and I'm not yet sure what happened to my Buff when I moved house...

Kind of looked like you could smell something really good coming from the apartment you just left and it was tempting you to come back and eat it, but you had to suck it up and head out so you were a bit depressed.

This is the reason I love the fall season best. THe crispness, the comfortable temperature. There's a way in which even the sounds in the air change. You hear rustling leaves and wind and .... it's just the best.

Plus I hate the heat... so it's always a welcome relief after months of summer.

79 in Colorado Springs. Not as hot as it was in late August, but still shorts weather around here. Of course, we don't put on jackets until it gets below 60. And our girls ski in bikinis. We're crazy like that...
