I found a bag of airline peanuts in a winter coat my dad let me use...he claimed he hadn't used the coat in years...

Actually, hard candy like mints are probably still good, as long as they didn't get wet or heated up and cooled off a lot, which would recrystallize the sugar and probably force moisture from the air into it. Rock candy (the big giant crystals of sugar on a string) keeps for decades.

The mint should be fine.

I once lost my keys for like two months. Which is madness, because I was always VERY good about putting them on our key holder thing. They eventually turned up in my grandpa's old mechanical chair, between the cushion and the back of the chair. I'm assuming I tossed them on the chair one day after work and then someone sat on the chair.

Needless to say, once I found them, I was ECSTATIC. I'd so missed my huge pink clip and witty keychains Dx

I've done this more times than I can count, finding keys in forgotten coats.

I think the best, or perhaps worst, was finding something in a coat I hadn't worn in years, that something being something (I cannot remember what now) that my ex and I had gotten into a fight over me loosing. I didn't loose it, apparently just seasons changed after I put it in that pocket and I subsequently forgot it was there. And then decided I didn't care for that coat. I only found it after we had separated and I was going through clothes to get rid of.

I lose stuff in my jackets all the time! I now assume if my keys or gloves aren't in their designated spots, they're probably in the last jacket I wore. XD

I'm terrified of losing my keys because I live in the safest, most trustworthy area the front door locks automatically, so I'd be stuck outside.

The best thing I find in coats is pens.

I'm so paranoid about losing my keys, not only are there my dorm keys on there, but also my mail box key, and a key to the college's Student Union. Not to mention my USB-drive, my Blizzard Authenticator, and my wooden carved Cruzan rum key-chain that tells me how to make "Cheesecake" drinks.

So yeah, you can tell why I'm pretty clutchy with my keys.

Though, I found a twenty dollar bill in my winter coat this year, so that was pretty nice, and the D4 that I flicked at my friend and stuck him, "point-to-point" in the groin.

That mint is safe. I found a small Easter egg chocolate (still wrapped and everything) under the car seat when I was looking for the jack and I estimated that it has been there for 1-2 years.
My mother left it in the fridge for another 6 months before eating it last night.

She survived so that mint is fine.

I also found my lost mp3 player in my jacket after a year.

HA! I found a d12 in mine! ...Can't imagine what the hell I needed a d12 for. Are those even used for anything anymore? Explains why I wasn't missing it, anyway.

I believe the best is the crumpled up twenty dollar bill you thought you lost a year ago. Of course, keys, dice, kleenex, and old candies are all pretty awesome, too. I guess.

Ha! I had similiar situation last summer, would have cost over 400 euros to replace those damn keys. My fiance had them in a smoking jacket pocket. I looked them like six hours while panicking.

I usually hide 50 bucks in a pocket of a heavy coat I'll wear once a year, maybe. That way, I forget about it once winter is over, then when next time I put it on...Happy Surprises. XD

Ahahaha, I did the key thing once with a ring of mine. Thought I'd lost it, turned up a year later in a winter coat. Now, my keys on the other hand, I did a damn fine job of losing, by throwing them in the trash.

The fact that you had a d4 lost in your coat just means you're awesome.

One time Past Me left 20 bucks in my winter coat for Future Me to find. And then a couple months later, Future Me found another 5 in my windbreaker.

Past Me might be an idiot who leaves a ton of work for Future Me to do, but at least he tends to pay well.

I lost my cellphone in a coat the same way. My mom bought me a new and more expensive one, and when it started to get cold I found the old one again. Oops, indeed.

I love doing this! The best thing I found in my coat pockets was an old gameboy and a Pokemon game.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that keeps wads of clean tissues folded up in my pocket. Even forgetting those clean wads of tissues in the pockets for long extended periods of time. I do that too. Then when I find them again they're covered in lint from the inside of the pocket.

I think I might have it worse than you guys... We found my dad's old digital camera in the pocket of his coat. After I'd been blamed for losing it for two years. XD
