Release Party!
Cricket's got a lot of names, some of which are not appropriate for print! Naught cats have a lot of names like that. You guys and gals have any good nicknames for your pets? That's a dumb question, I bet you do.
Our handsome release poster on the front door of Bergen St. Comics (and actually, Yuko has some work in that book on the right side of the photo)! There's now a post on Bergen Street's site about the release party. It's this Friday at 8 PM, bring your friends! Lela is making some cookies and maybe some little sandwiches, we'll have copies of our book, and we'll be a doing a live reading of John Advice with John and Conrad! It should be a good time.
Also, I'd mentioned Exquisite Beast last week - there are some new posts for you to look at! Check it out!
That's all for us! See you Thursday - and Friday! Take it easy!

Cat names.
Comment by Dave (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:00Our black and white domestic shorthair gets called 'Sh*tbag', because he responds to the 'Sh..' noise more than his real name which is Patch. Also its amusing for us and fitting for him.

Comment by corvideye (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:05A friend of mine named his cat Dammit on the rationale that it wasn't going to respond anyway.
Yyyyyyeaaaaah.
Comment by Firra (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:05Yeesh, I just realized this about my cat. Her name is Elvira but she answers more readily to things like Smellvira, Smelly, Pudding and Virus. I've been trying to retrain her to recognize Elvira, but the nicknames are too fun!
Cat!
Comment by It's Kai (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:16Our cat, Bonsai, ignores her name and responds to "Cat", "Kitty", "Meow", and "What're you doin'?". We also call her many combinations starting with "Cat-" "Meow-" "Poop-" "Fur-" or "Purr-" and ending with "-monster" "-machine" "-factory" or "-face".
My cat is named Nazilla
Comment by Melbourne Cat Mum (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:19My cat is named Nazilla (according to teh intarwebs it's Persian for 'cute'), but is also known as 'Zilla, 'Zilla-Monster, Psycho-Kitty, Qu'est-ce que c'est que ça (for the Talking Heads song, naturellement!), Kitten, Little S**t, Fuzzlebutt... the list goes on.
Cat nicknames
Comment by PokeyPuppy (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:23We have five cats with RIDICULOUS names...and lots of nicknames. Sarah Jane: Naughty, Brat, Noodle / Captain Jack: Lil Man, Mama's Boy, Rumbly / Milady: Summer (she's black with white "bikini" patches on her tummy), Fangs, Sobs / Number Six: Fat Girl, Kissy Monster, Bunny / Dr. Girlfriend: Baby Bird, Attack Kitty, Vicious. Okay, their actual names are weirder than their nicknames.
Poopsnake
Comment by Kudzu (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:25I call my cat Chloe, "Stinker", "Dummy", "Bloaty", "Fatty", and a personal favourite, "Poopsnake".
I have a dog named Shamira
Comment by Briget (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:26I have a dog named Shamira and we've always called her all sorts of names. Shamoofus, Dumb Dog (she's sweet, but pretty dumb), Mira, Moofus, Scooty Butt (not because she does the gross butt scooting, but because she actually will just sit and then kind of scoot over to the closest person to pet her, while still sitting), Seal Face...probably a bunch more that but I can't think of them right now.
Cat! I'm a kitty-cat! And I meow-meow-meow, and I meow-meow-meow
Comment by Ssssssssam (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:26If an animal's not going to come to you unless you have food, might as well call 'im anything.
My orange tabby is sometimes called "Yellowstone" because he developed a severe bladder stone problem and his surgery used up all our vacation money.
Eh, I guess he was worth it. =B

Nicknames for cats
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:33I think numbnuts and dipshit are the two names I use most for my little kitty-butts.
Her name is Diesel but...
Comment by Sabrina Ali (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:36...we call her Fuzzy, Fuzz Ball, Fur Ball, Baby Girl, Little Princess, Boo Boo, and Ms Mew.
But she mostly answers to her actual name, which I've been told is uncommon.
Oh and occasionally
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 18:38I call her Fuzzy-Butt.
Chubby Pants
Comment by Lilly (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:10Chubby pants, fatty lumpkins, sassypants, cuddle dumpling. and really anything that suggests they're lazy or fat.

Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:21My pets don't have nicknames, they have theme songs.
I have realized from this
Comment by CatOnKikisBow (not verified) Sat, 01/14/2012 - 04:10I have realized from this comment that the first theme songs of all theme songs I think of when someone writes "theme song" anywhere is the Pokemon theme song.
"POKEMON, it's you and me,
I know it's my DEESTIINY,
POKEMON, you're my best friend,
in a world we must defend..."

Comment by Emi (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:30My cat Lydia is usually Lydie-pretty-kitty because I'm a crazy cat lady at the age of 22. The dog Wishbone has responded to everything from Henry to Meatloaf to F**kbone if he's been bad that day.
My dog, Sophie, tends to
Comment by Marrow (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:32My dog, Sophie, tends to respond to "Fluffy Butt" and "Sophie-ChuChu." My girlfriend's dog, Lolley, is usually called "Poopface," "Lolley Poopdeck" (like the guy from Flapjack, lol) and "Poop." You can tell we're all very mature in this household. 8D;

Comment by Rozero (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:35My brother has a little white cat named Arya, but she's more often referred to as "kitten" or "the kitten."

Comment by Kimmy (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:43I don't know if this has been said or not, but Exquisite Beast makes me think of the game Spore. You guys should check it out if you haven't; it's a fun way to learn evolution and the furthering of a species!
Also, My cat is named Ferris, and he gets "Ferris Berris, Ferr Berr, Ferikus Berikus, Ferris Asperagus," and other things related to his craziness like "Nut-box."

Comment by Girrocks001 (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:47My dog Benji (who passed away last year after 18 years) was named after the movie Benji but we told people his full name was Benjamin J. Dogg cause he was fancy like that =]

Comment by Brendan (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:50Could you perhaps record it, or at least bits of it, mostly the John Advice, commas within commas, commaception, for those of us unable to attend because of the cruel regulations of the real world. Also can't wait for the special edition. Any idea when it will be finished? No need to rush, I can wait. I want our first time to be special.
9 cats, 100+ names
Comment by dolph122000 (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:56I regularly leave out cat food since our complex doesn't allow pets. As such we have 9 or so "regulars" that frequent the bowls at odd hours. So far I've counted Bagheera (big boy, fatas*, big guy, or fuzzball), Callie (dumbas*, fatas* [when preggers], little momma, cutie, teeny, tiny, little one), and Mrs. Long (formerly Ed Long [long face, like a horse!], baby, sweetie, cutiepie, cutie, little baby) are the most seen and sociable.
The triplets (orange tabbies, 1. Foofy, 2. Shy, 3. Jess), persian (actually siamese cat but I always forget), puffy tail (poofy tail, fluffy tail, fuzzy tail), black and white kitten, The Doctor (grey striped tabby with a white underbelly and a grey mark under his/her chin that looks just like a bowtie!), other grey kitten (not actually a kitten anymore), and large orange cat (Arthur's dad [cat that ran off], giant f*ck cat, handsome) all frequent our bowls but aren't seen as often and are varying levels of sociable (mostly not).

My cat, Rainey, gets called
Comment by mira mesa (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:09My cat, Rainey, gets called all sorts of stupid nicknames:
Rain-bear
Raineycat
Babydoll
Kittyface
and Getthefuckoutofthewaycat
She still will answer to 'Rainey', though.
My dad's got this massive
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:13My dad's got this massive black german shepherd named Zelda. My sister calls her 'Monkey' because she had a rash around her face at one point and had to have a lot of her face-fur shaved (it grew back, thank Yod). I generally call her 'Mush' because really, that's all she is. She's one year old, 110 lbs, and the biggest, friendliest mush of a dog on the east coast.
My family's three cats all
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:37My family's three cats all have their own nicknames in addition to their names. I use the following on any of them: cat, kitten, fluff/fuzz-butt, or fluffy.
Jewel's exclusive nicknames include pretty kitty, pretty girl, and any variation on that (I'm particularly attached to her)
Lori's nicknames include stupid, fluffy cat, dumb-butt, and shedmachine
Tripp is small cat, attack kitten, squeaky, "Why were you sitting there?!", and any variation on "Argh!" due to his propensity for being underfoot
My brother's cats are better, though. He has Socks, also known as "The Fat One", and Leia, also known as "Your Worshipfulness".
My cat's name is Daisy, but
Comment by Libby (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:38My cat's name is Daisy, but more often than not she gets called Butt, Daisy-butt, Daisy-bear, Daisy-pants, Stinky-butt, Cat, and Daze. However, my personal favorite names for her are Getdownfromthere! and Owwhywouldyoudothat?
On cat names-
Comment by Spacker (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:42We have an old, broken down rescue-cat named Tam. She's hardly called it though. Most of the time she's Saggycat, Floppycat, Flabneck, Stinky, Barfy, or Stupid.
All in affectionate ways, of course... Though she does throw up a lot, and smell pretty bad...
my dog has far too many
Comment by Trudy (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:46my dog has far too many nicknames..my family has a tendency to give everyone silly nicknames, and my dog is certainly no exception. she's been called Tooitz, Witzie, Hoo-witz, Witzenheimer, Twitties, Nub-a-witz, Lick-a-witz, [other random words]-a-witz, to name a few. oh, and Daisy..which is her given name.
Dog's name...
Comment by Sarah (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 22:56People in my immediate family (mostly my two older brothers) confuse my name (Sarah) and the dog's name (Pearl, a silver toy poodle).
So... Pearl licks the carpet 24/7 (or whatever she is laying on)
"SARAH STOP LICKING THE CARPET."
and she get's on the table if no one is watching...
"SARAH GET OFF THE TABLE."
I do school work.
"Have you done your homework, Pearl? Anything I can help with?"
The only good thing I can glean from this is that I am adorable like my dog... ._.
It's a long walk from Colorado
Comment by Eon (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 23:28Have you thought about live streaming or recording the release party?
My friend has a dog called
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 23:40My friend has a dog called Darcy who I refuse to call anything but Darsasnarfmnarf.
I don't particularly have
Comment by Animus (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 23:45I don't particularly have any nicknames for my pets (my cat Shadow is just Shadow kitty and the dog Angus is Gus or Gussy), but my parents have some great ones. My favorite are my dad's- he calls the dog Idiot Dog or ID whenever someone is around to hear, but when he thinks no ones is around he calls him Angy-poo or AP.
Yep.
Comment by M (not verified) Tue, 01/10/2012 - 23:47Yep, we've got three cats and a slew of weird nicknames. Curlytail, Vermin, Prettypaws, Lolcat, Varmint, Fuzzbomb, and the list goes on.

I don't actually have a cat...
Comment by Cat-is-a-cat (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 00:33I do own a small dog, however, who thinks he's a cat. His name is Freddie, and we call him every variation of this we can think of.
Fredrick
Freduardo
Fredward

The last one is my favorite...
My 'naughty' cat's name is
Comment by Hermes (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 00:43My 'naughty' cat's name is Bug/Bugs/Bugsy and when he's being particularly troublesome I just call him Mothra. I've decided since that Mothra and Godzilla would be adorable pet names.
If Mothra ever 'gets with'
Comment by Bluescale (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 01:17If Mothra ever 'gets with' another cat, if you know what I mean, you need to name that other cat Ghidorah because then you could name their first offspring "the Great Ghidorah" under the assumption that that first child would be a freakish gold mutant with three heads the wings of a dragon.
Alas Mothra has no bits- but
Comment by Hermes (not verified) Mon, 01/16/2012 - 16:42Alas Mothra has no bits- but that would be another hilarious name for a cat! "Come here great Ghidorah- aw there's a good kitty mutant."
Petty petty pet names
Comment by Danielle (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 00:44Aside from the usual "baby," "sweetie," and "sweetiepea," my girls Ellie and Smudge are often called "Elliemonster" and "Smudgesicle" (like "fudgesicle"). :D
Oh...
Comment by Danielle (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 00:47Oh, and I have a goldfish named Goldie who is occasionally called Sean's Penis by my old college buddies, but that's a looooong story.
... or a very short story, I guess.
"Bitch." Though "Shut Up"
Comment by Rem (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 01:06"Bitch." Though "Shut Up" could be a name for her as much as a have to say it to her.
I don't like the cat much.
