Release Party!

Tue, 01/10/2012 - 17:56 by Ananth in response to kitten of a hundred names

Cricket's got a lot of names, some of which are not appropriate for print! Naught cats have a lot of names like that. You guys and gals have any good nicknames for your pets? That's a dumb question, I bet you do.

Our handsome release poster on the front door of Bergen St. Comics (and actually, Yuko has some work in that book on the right side of the photo)! There's now a post on Bergen Street's site about the release party. It's this Friday at 8 PM, bring your friends! Lela is making some cookies and maybe some little sandwiches, we'll have copies of our book, and we'll be a doing a live reading of John Advice with John and Conrad! It should be a good time.

Also, I'd mentioned Exquisite Beast last week - there are some new posts for you to look at! Check it out!

That's all for us! See you Thursday - and Friday! Take it easy!

Comment by Android 21 3/7 (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 21:44

Her name is Poko, but for a while, I called her Pyoko, Piyoko, Lyoko (as in the french cartoon about the kids who fight a computer virus by playing a VR game). But these days, I've been calling her Pononon~, Pororon~, Darling, Sweetie, Sweet Pea, Baby (she's actually old though), Kitty, Pretty Baby...

I never called her anything relating to any negative aspects of her personality. Probably because she has so many. Her only virtue is her good looks. No one else in my family loves her except me, so I probably keep giving her nice nicknames to compensate for that. I think she senses it though. One other virtue that has popped up in her old age is complete loyalty to me. Will sleep next to or on top of me every opportunity she gets and will not do this with anyone else.

My dog's name is Grizzly

Comment by MR_Leach (not verified) Wed, 01/11/2012 - 22:26

But we've called him "Griswold", "Grizzles", "Puppers", "Poopers", "Old Man", "Magoo", "D'oh-Head" (or at least my mother calls him that), and the standard "Grizzly-Bear". Lately I've taken to calling him "Handsome", though, because he's old and has problems and sometimes I feel he deserves a compliment <3

Ume, Yuki and Little Girl

Comment by Jael (not verified) Thu, 01/12/2012 - 11:21

My husband and I have three cats (the third cat is always something that just falls in your lap, you never go looking for three cats).

Our oldest is a grey/tan mackerel tabby girl named Ume (oo-may). She really only responds to her name but sometimes Umeko or Umekins.

Our middle boy is a pure white DSH with baby blue eyes named Yuki (yoo-key). He also responds to Goober, Goobie or Fuzzy White Turd Boy.

Our third is a petite calico girl we found as a kitten in our apartment building's courtyard. She had a collar but no tag. We assumed she already had a home, so we didn't bother naming her. We just called her Little Girl. We were never able to find her home and no one reported a missing cat to the local humane society, so we ended up keeping her. Her nick names are Littles, Wittle-wee or wittle-wee-wumpus.

I'm not sure where the rumor that cat's don't know their names came from, but all our cats know their name and will come when called.....well, unless they have decided to ignore us.

Cat Names!

Comment by Raptorix (not verified) Thu, 01/12/2012 - 13:36

The resident senior citizen cat (She's 16 years old!) who was given the name Mittens is currently going by the name 'Old Lady', as her age is really showing right now for the past year. In her younger years, I was fond of calling her 'Mitty-Mitts'

The reason being our current 10 month old kittens living in our house, making Old Lady seem fairly old.

Pancake (intentionally named after @Natazilla's own tortie) goes by 'Pan Pan', 'Cakes', 'Cake Pan', 'P', 'Princess P' and 'Princess Cake'.

Inky, my male domestic longhair black cat, goes by 'Inky Dinky', 'Bink a Dink', 'Ink a Dink a Dink', 'Inky Stinky', 'Stinky Inky', and 'Buddy'.

Yes! Cat names are my favorite!
I used to have a cat named Toast, who I ended up calling things like Toasters, Toastie, Toastietoes, and then just plain Toes.

My current cat, I have much more fun with as her name is Meeko, and can be turned into just the noises she makes. (A noise like, "Myyyrp") Thus, she is Meeko, Meekerton, Meekers, Merkerton, Merk, Meeper, Meeps, and of course, Myerp.

I don't even know what comes out of my mouth half the time, but I love giving her names nonetheless!

My cat is named Lunchbox.

:D Kitty nicknames!

Comment by Sary (not verified) Fri, 01/13/2012 - 02:59

My cats name is Naitomea (pronounced N-eye-toe-meh, Japanese for 'Nightmare'.. yes, I'm odd); but I'm fairly certain he doesn't know his whole first name. I've always called him Nai when talking to him or calling him inside. I live in North Carolina, in a small town (eww), so I'm fairly certain someone (or everyone?) would think me insane if I went outside screaming "NAITTOMEHHHH!". Anyway. He's a mostly black cat with single white hairs here and there on his body, plus white symmetrical tufts under his armpits and a wide V on his tummy.
HIS nicknames are Handsome, Stinky Boy, Fuzzy Butt, Jerkface, Snuggle-Bunny, Spoiled Boy.. and a few more less appropriate ones. He's kind of a jerk.. but he's MY jerk, and I adore him to smithereens.
Then we have Misty, our Maine Coon. We call her Princess, Muffin, Misty Muffin, Fluffy, Gorgeous Girl, and a few other mushy variations.
Our oldest cat, Sassafras, is mostly called Sassi. She's a 14-year-old calico with a few health issues [thyroid problems, and basically Kitty AIDS, so she has to get a pill twice a day] and is this pretty skinny, but healthy as can be expected. We call her Old Fart, Pretty Girl, Siren Kitty, Hawaii Kitten [she made the move from there with us when I was in the middle of 5th grade.. dad retired from the Navy], Coconutty, Sazmfrazm (okay, I was like nine and experimenting hilariously with the speaking-into-the-fan-robot-voice).
And my sisters black and white Tomcat, James, has mostly unflattering names [like Demon Cat and Satan]. There's a reason, and it isn't because we're hateful/cruel people. James is about two years old, and grew up on the streets. He's incredibly sweet to people, but when exposed to any other animal, he basically tries to rip it to shreds. Thus we're only basically fostering him. We've got him fixed and he's had all his shots, but he's basically confined to my sisters room until we find someone to adopt him because he attacks all the other animals - including sick old Sassi, and even our 12-year-old black Lab Shadow, and our 3-year-old Husky Dakotah [unprovoked!].

So.. if anyone's grandma wants a guard kitty? Hit us up x_x

I also have a newt that goes by Newt but his original name is Duncan.

Comment by Lisa (not verified) Sat, 01/14/2012 - 03:42

I have four cats, so "Babies!" in a particular tone of voice is how I bring all of them out (only really works at meal and play time). In order from oldest to youngest are their other names besides brats.

Rocky: Rocko, Rockababy, Rockstar/ster, The Good Son

Pixie: Pixet, Lovely Little Lady Baby, Baby Girl, Pixiewixie

Raven: Fuzzbutt, Handsome Boy, Totem Kitty

Willow: Willy-willy-willow, Willowkins, Little Hellion, Watch Kitty

The last ones for the last two come from the fact they love sitting on the flat newel at the bottom of stair to stare out the window of the front door. And I think fluffy cats usually end up getting called fuzzbutt at some point. There's a neighbor cat that shows up sometimes we call fluffball because that's what he is and Raven already has fuzzbutt.

Our cats are named Leviathan

Comment by Otter (not verified) Sun, 01/15/2012 - 16:14

Our cats are named Leviathan and Colossus (they were so tiny, we couldn't help it) with nicknames of Levi and Coal, but they hardly ever get called that. Levi is puffer, floofus, drooly, or stupid, and rarely "Puffer Fish--who lives in salt water? who does?" because I'm silly. But the sound he responds to is me clicking my tongue against the roof of my mouth; when he was a kitten I accidentally trained him to expect me to give him scraps of cheese when I made that noise, and now it's an irresistible siren call for him. Coal is baby, tiny, or kittaten, or stupid. He's learning to recognize the treat-noise, mostly because he's figuring out that if he ignores it, Levi gets all of the treats!

Her name is Willow, but she gets, "Willow the Pillow," "Fat-cat," "Missy," "The Phantom," and "Allergens."

She's the Phantom because most of her face is black like most Siamese, but the left side of here face is white like the Phantom of the Opera's mask. Allergens because I'm allergic to her. The others because she's pudgy.

Cat's name

Comment by Spiderbait (not verified) Thu, 04/19/2012 - 01:49

My cat's name was Brúsi, which means canteen, for some inexplicable reason when we got it. We got him when he was really tiny because his mother's owners wanted to get rid of him and his sibling (every kitten in the litter except for him and his sibling died from starvation as his mother had him in secret in the countryside :'( ) as fast as possible. He grew really attached to my mother and started meowing 'mamma' (mama) so we'd usually call that back to him.
It was always hit-or-miss if he'd come though except for when my mother called him. He always came when my mother called him.
