We've all been known to mispronounce words from time to time, but this was probably Yuko's finest moment. I will say this is nowhere as near as bad as the time that I informed my Japanese class that a word that I've now forgotten meant "Venereal Equinox." Clearly I should have been in an English class, but that's for another time.

Take special note of the bowtie on the dinosaur in the picture. It's an important part of the canon.

Ahahah xD I've done that with the word 'Detrimental'. For the longest time me and my mom had said 'deprimental'. A friend pointed it out to me. I had the same reaction xD

If you browse the forums of various online games, it not just gets pronounced, it even gets SPELLED that way everywhere.

I thought for a long time that the word "queue" was pronounced "kway". One of my British friends corrected me and told me that it was pronounced like the letter "Q". I went on calling it a "kway" just to annoy him, and have more recently moved on to calling it a "kuh-way-way". =D

Oh, forgot to add my feature request:
Maybe one of those searches so that you can look for a certain word in a comic strip? Like OhNoRobot or something like that. I mean, it's not that important when you've only got a few strips, but it makes searching later easier! :)

This is one that I've had the scaffolding in place for since day one. We already keep a transcript of each comic stored in the database, I just need to plug in the module for searching on it. We'll have this up and running once we finalize the search design and functionality. :)

I liked the dinosaur in the last panel. I have mispronounced so many things, If I made a list, Santa would keel over. I hate to think of, everyday, how I butcher the English Language....and it's my first language, lol...

That reminds me of when I was a kid. I used to say 'Quay' as it's spelled and everyone was like 'Oh, are you going to the quayside?' (saying it as 'key') and I was like '...What?! D:'
I was 6. I think that might let me off a little?

Haha! One of my friends used to pronounce "epitome" as "eppy-tome." XD Nowadays, when he makes a dig at one of us, we'll say something like, "oh yeah? well, EPPYTOME."

I did that until about a year and a half ago. I'm 20 now. I can't believe nobody ever corrected me before then :( I was very very embarassed and I still am. *Cries in a corner*

I remembered that there's a This American Life episode with a segment all about people believing things to be one way when it is completely obvious to the rest of the world that things are definitely another, e.g. the woman who believed in Unicorns as an adult and then found out at a party in front of her friends that she was horribly wrong.

P.S. EMBARRASSING REVELATION: I had a dictionary/thesaurus set in my nightstand when I was in second grade and it has always remained in my bedroom since then.

I loved that episode! With the girl who thought that "X-Ing" as in "Deer X-Ing" was a word, and the one who only ate chicken for every lunch and dinner who didn't understand that others had actual variety in their mealplan? XD
I'm painfully addicted to This American Life - it's an absolutely fantastic show. I'm also going to be painfully late to my philo exam if I don't get off the internet now.

I was out with a friend for dinner and he asked the waitress "What is the pomegranate like?" (Pronounced: pom-gran-ot-ay)

Bear in mind I had heard him injecting "oh I'm Italian" into every conversation we ever had, as if his lineage made him cultured.

Haha I totally do that as well, call it Theasaurus. It needs the A! I've been called on it once, but I still refuse to change my rendition of it, mostly out of habit.

i love the first panel, since i too am easily excited when it's time to look up words (in either dictionary or theasaurus!)

i've always said hyper-bowl for hyperbole (i guess hi-per-bo-lee..), until my old boss made fun of me, heh.

Reminds me of an incident in Intro to Anatomy and Physiology, we've just had a test on the cranial nerves(the mnemonic goes Oh, Oh, Oh to touch and and feel....wiki has the rest) for the olfactory. optic, oculomotor..... and the rest of the cranial nerves.
The professor after checking the test papers had this to say.
"Everyone here knows the most catchy mnemonic for the cranial nerves but please make sure that you write down the nerve(Vagus) and not the mnemonic device(vagina)."
The professor didn't mention the culprit but then she probably didn't have to, his red face was enough testimony.

I told my entire german class that "Mein Kampf" means "my comfort" because Kampf sounds like Comfy.
Needless to say i flunked the class.

My favorite mispronounced word moment comes from my best friend reading off the back of a cheesy romance novel: pronouncing the word erotic as "er-OH-tic". XD

Humorously enough, it seems that everyone has at least one word that they always mispronounce, and have a wtf moment when they find the true pronunciation...

relevantly, mine is opacity, whereas i say oh-pass-ity
