Coffee

Coffee

Tue, 12/09/2008 - 03:44 by Ananth in response to he only likes fake coffee

Coffee is one of those grown-up things I never acquired a taste for. I like tea, and hot chocolate, and chai, and if you put a super sweet Starbucks coffee in front of me there's a 50/50 chance I'll like it, but when it comes to real, manly, black coffee, I have to bow my head to Yuko. She and her roommates like their coffee hard (well, compared to me) ... Yuko drinks hers with milk and a little bit of sugar, John puts in a lot of sugar and some chocolate syrup, and Conrad just drinks it black. There's a hierarchy there, and Conrad is at the top and I am at the bottom. Coffee is just too bitter for me ... but it smells great. I love standing in the aisle at the grocery store so I can inhale, and the smell of fresh coffee in the morning is something I'm pretty fond of. I just can't abide drinking it ... Yuko has tried and tried again, but the reality is that if the coffee is even a little strong, my face scrunches up in distaste. If it's especially strong I'll get a headache, which is kind of strange. My lame lineup up of palatable coffee or coffee-styled products from Starbucks:

Vanilla Frappucino
Iced Chai Latte
Caramel Machiatto

That's pretty much it. When winter rolls around I drink hot chocolate when everyone else has tea. We recently bought a bottle of hazelnut syrup, which tastes so good in the hot chocolate. In fact, I think I'll go make some now ...

I've gotten headaches from strong coffee, too! Really, any strong amount of caffeine makes my head hurt for a while. It also makes my pulse race. But I have a really low blood pressure and I've read that caffeine creates a short spike in blood pressure, so that may be the reason for the headaches for me.

I hate coffee, and actually i don't like tea much. I have some sweet tooth, and my beverage could easily rot some people's teeth, really. My boyfriend says i'm gonna end up with a severe case of diabetes, but nothing's happened so far.

Just to add: coffee actually makes me sleepy. Yeah, i also have no idea.

And a lot of comments came out; could you delete the other two, please?

Yeah... you can tell when

Yeah... you can tell when I'm really, REALLY cold, because I will try coffee (again), despite the fact that I hate it....in hopes that I will miraculously like it and thus have something warm....(although if I am drinking tea or hot chocolate it means nothing because I will drink it during 80 degree weather) lol

Aha, I'm the same way!

Aha, I'm the same way! Always hated coffee-- and when I say it, I tend to get looks like I'm crazy. This past year I've gotten a little more used to it, thanks to having to crank out a decent sized comic in about 48 hours[thirteen pages, a few hours sleep, and ustreamed the whole while so it took a week before I'd stop replying to my screen verbally and remembered to type].

And is the Hazelnut syrup is Torani, that stuff is amazing! On the occasion I do need to have coffee, that and milk and sugar are what I put in it. It's also good in just milk on occasion. o v o

...Also, for the long comment, I may as well say here. this is a great comic, I enjoy it a lot. This past week or two I've been binging webcomics, reading whole archives in a night each, and this is really one I like. The art is lovely and perfect styling for the subject matter[Please pass that to Yuko] and the pacing is done splendidly. Each person's personality shines through really well, and it has all the right amount of quirks. Next time I have the money, I'll definitely buy some merchandise. <3

I wonder if you're a little

I wonder if you're a little sensitive to caffeine...and there can be some pretty weird reactions to caffeine and coffee.

Mix a pinch of salt to your coffee. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it actually takes away a lot of the bitterness while enhancing the coffee's flavor. Adding lots of sugar doesn't neutralize the bitterness like salt does, it only masks it behind a stronger flavor. I like mine black with salt.

You're not the only one...

I've always been a fan of delicious Hot coco! Everyone I know drinks coffee too, but coffee kills my internals. Why force yourself to like something that you're body isn't into? Chocolate awesome all the way!!
