Iron Johnny Wander!
Oh man I think I am almost back to normal ... I haven't been this sick in a while. Yuko's been mega-sweet and totally patient while she takes care of me ... thanks babe!
Oh oh so we got one of those Iron Gym pull-up bars! The way they're set up, utilizing weight and counter-weight, it's pretty slick! Also, awesome to have around. I'll be working, and if I'm taking a break or I need to think a problem out, I can go do a couple of pull-ups in the meantime. It's also become an unspoken rule that if you walk by the pull-up bar, you've got to do at least try doing some pull-ups.
Whether or not we'll "Get Ripped ... Quick!" remains to be seen, though. I'll keep you posted! In the meantime, tea and bed for me ...

Comment by Michael M. (not verified) Wed, 04/08/2009 - 23:49Oh man, we used to have one of those. I used to do mad rips.
And by rips, I mean sat on the couch and ate a pizza.

Comment by Kim (not verified) Wed, 04/08/2009 - 23:49I was the proudest tiny, Asian girl when in gym class, I performed two pullups! And then my teacher turned around and said, "Wait, I missed it, can you do it again?"
I must come over and try
Comment by markymark (not verified) Wed, 04/08/2009 - 23:57I must come over and try that thing out.
Yes
Comment by John Kelly (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 00:06We will also incidentally be doing that thing where we work on our abs at the same time due to the bending of our legs because of our height and such.
:-(
Comment by kyle (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 00:28dont feel bad yuko i can do swim faster and longer than many of the people i know (many of whom are swimmers) but i can never do a pull up or climb that dumb rope YARG
Never could do pull-ups...
Comment by t//B (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 00:46Never could do pull-ups... Somehow genetically all my muscles went to my legs.
Same here
Comment by Naktarr (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 19:06My arms are puny things, my legs... well someone in the know about leg muscles saw my knees and went O_O due to the muscle.
^^ I pack a mean kick.

it's the look of determination is all you need!
Comment by Kei (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 03:56Love the look on John and Conrad's face :D
Cool.
But, don't Conrad have to duck to walk through doorways normally?
Oh man, chin-ups
Comment by McClaud (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 04:57I wouldn't feel bad if I were Yuko.
When I joined the service, I could do tons of sit ups and push ups. Then the drill sergeant said, "Duckman! Get your a$$ over here and do some chin-ups."
The present leader in chin-ups looked worried and the group held their breath until I lept up and tried to do ONE chin up. And failed. Miserably. Because my upper arm strength suuuu-cked!
Eventually, if you work at it, it becomes easier. So don't give in to them! YOU CAN DO EET!!!
Oh man, I remember the phys
Comment by Yume (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 04:58Oh man, I remember the phys ed tests we had to do every year in gym. Girls didn't even have to do one full pull-up to pass; I think half of one got you through. Let's just say I only passed that one by the skin of my teeth.... D:
Arms of flab
Comment by Farren (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 05:22Poor Yuko. You look, so cute trying to pull yourself up. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would look just like that.
Now because you're so short, did you have to jump, get lifted, or use a chair to reach the bar?
But don't feel bad. I think I can only squeeze out two or three of them.
I remember the gym class tests too. So long ago, when I was young and much less round than I am now. I think my record was 10 pull-ups.
._.
Comment by Aido Fri, 04/10/2009 - 09:31... I have to jump. ._.

Comment by eleriel (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 05:53... ten pullups while 'almost normal' (two other words for 'still sick' ;)
yeah. you win.
Oh, no way - that's
Comment by Ananth Thu, 04/09/2009 - 11:30Oh, no way - that's definitely while I'm not sick. I don't dare go near it right now ... I'll just make myself sicker.
Hehe
Comment by JSRadio (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 06:00I'm in the same boat as Yuko. I cannot do pull-ups for the life of me.
One chin up and hold it.
Comment by KimbaChan (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 07:32I remember part of our phy-ed crap in school, we had to hold your chin over the bar and see how long you can hold it. I was really tiny in school, so I held for like 50-60 seconds. Most students could only hold it for like 5-15 seconds. I know I can't do it now...I'm still small, but I have no arm strength.
Chin ups are the devil.
Comment by Bec (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 08:03I used to do gymnastics and would compete in the uneven parallels... as a result, I could do mad chin ups.
In gym class, however, because I was a girl who could do chin ups and none of the others really could, people were convinced something was wrong with me.
>_<
Tea and bed nothing!

Comment by Sarah (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 09:10I hated those phys ed tests SO MUCH in grade school. It always involved me getting up in front of the class and failing to do a chin-up.
Ditto
Comment by Dr. Mike Wendell (not verified) Sat, 04/11/2009 - 09:58Ditto. All my strength is in my legs. Never even came close.
It's funny, I remember once
Comment by Cowdog (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 09:26It's funny, I remember once when I was at OMSI(Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), they had this exibit about human body mechanics. There was this pull-up bar where they would time how long you could hold yourself up for. This ripped bodybuilder guy stayed on for quite awhile, but then his time got completely blown away by an 8-year old girl.
The explanation was that the bodybuilder had far more weight to hold up compared to how much muscle mass there was available to do the holding.
Moral of the story: Yuko, you have no excuses for being such a wimp. ^_^
If Yuko held onto Ananth do
Comment by PHIL!!! (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 09:50If Yuko held onto Ananth do you think he could do 10 3/4 pull-ups??? He would be unstoppable.
Pull ups
Comment by Jared (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 09:53Never could do pull ups. I actually remember back in high school I had weight training class my senior year. The coach and I got along great and made fun of each other a lot. When it came time for the last set of physical fitness test I told him that after the last pull up test, I would be attempting to use that skill a lot less frequently than what my first period class was teaching me. What was my first period class? Calculus. And he agreed with that sentiment. He still laughed when I couldn't do a single pull up after having had his class two years in a row.
Don't worry Yuko
Comment by Chris (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 11:23If you're in a situation where you need to do a pullup or equivalent activity, (like pulling yourself up over a wall while running from a zombie horde ala Left4Dead) that extra 1/4 will come through from adrenaline. So don't you worry you'll be JUST FINE! ^_^
No big deal
Comment by Aperture (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 13:46I can only do about 3 pullups myself.
Awww... don't worry
Comment by Jessie (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 15:10Seriously.... I can't even get THAT far. I only get up to... well... actually I can't pull myself up at all. I'm more of a lower body strength person, not upper body, heh.
I Wish That I Had Jessie Girl's Lower Body Strength
Comment by McClaud (not verified) Fri, 04/10/2009 - 03:40I'm old. I don't have much strength left in me.
Seriously, though, it was sad day when I couldn't do one pull up. My drill instructor said, "Duckman, you have totally let me down."
By the end of Basic Training, I could do 15.
I can't let ANYONE down. It's my super power.
Woah.
Comment by Poptartian (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 18:19This may make you feel better (you may already know this but), you have your very own Wikipedia page! :D I think you're pretty much famous if you have your very own wiki page. (Here.)

Comment by Ananth Sat, 04/11/2009 - 09:44Haha, it cropped up a few years ago! Wow, it is pretty out of date. XD
Thanks for the reminder though!
haha
Comment by Elliotte (not verified) Thu, 04/09/2009 - 22:36awww Yuko, don't feel bad: my older cousin has one of those things and I can't even /reach/ it to do the pullup! I have to jump a little, and then due to my terrible depth perception I invariably miss the bar.
goals
Comment by shatteredcross (not verified) Fri, 04/10/2009 - 08:46This comic more than speaks to me. It is a sign. I've been working out like mad and can do anything my personal trainer yells at me to do.... except pull ups.
They're the cliff to my Wile E. Coyote.
I'm 5'10. 256lbs. and by the end of the month. I'm doing a pull up. Even if it kills me, and everyone in the gym to do it.
Dude yes!! You gotta do it!!
Comment by Ananth Sat, 04/11/2009 - 09:43Dude yes!! You gotta do it!! REPORT BACK IN A MONTH!!
What a coincedence.
Comment by Clownings (not verified) Fri, 04/10/2009 - 12:49I just got my Iron Gym on the 6th, and as I'm reading this, I wonder, "Is that an Iron Gym?"
It seems that every comic or flash animation website somehow relates to my life in such a timely fashion.
you're got the powah
Comment by Louis (not verified) Fri, 04/10/2009 - 16:41Ananth, as the leader of the pack, I think it's high time you stepped up... behind-the-neck pullups, man! Let's see how many you can do of THOSE.
When you get better, of course. When everybody gets better. Or when everybody's a zombie and it doesn't matter anymore ):
Oh gosh no, Conrad is leader
Comment by Ananth Sat, 04/11/2009 - 09:43Oh gosh no, Conrad is leader of the pack. It's my job to punch anyone who disagrees with him.
hah
Comment by Louis (not verified) Sun, 04/12/2009 - 03:02Conrad, leader of the pack? And can't do the most pullups? You'll be punching me now, but hahaha! Although I suppose that is a pretty manly scowl he's got going on this comic.

Comment by Jim (not verified) Sun, 04/12/2009 - 09:06I got one of those for Christmas. I'm pretty limber so I use it to do hanging sit-ups.
Note: If anyone who reads this tries to do a hanging sit-up DO NOT place your hands behind you head are you WILL injure your neck. Instead cross your arms over your chest like a mummy.
Lovin it
Comment by Brian (not verified) Mon, 04/13/2009 - 03:09I love how Conrad and John look so determined, yet Ananth looks like he's saying "yeah, I just did ten pull ups. So what?"
Didn't read the package
Comment by Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 04/18/2009 - 02:30I bought one of those thinking, "Yeah that will be a good way to work out and not leave the apartment," but then I put it together and realized that it didn't fit the door to my room. Luckily the bathroom actually has a 32" door frame or I really would have wasted my money.
Multiple uses
Comment by r3v3rend (not verified) Tue, 05/12/2009 - 09:21Definitely use it in the different ways that the inside leaflet suggests. Theyre great for elevated and over extension pushups, leg raises, and mini dip bars.
Of course the whole get ripped quick idea will only happen if a regime of cardio and alternate strength training is included.
Those are chin ups not
Comment by Yakri (not verified) Thu, 03/18/2010 - 15:13Those are chin ups not pull-ups!
