Tue, 12/30/2008 - 00:05 by Ananth in response to STOP EATING RIBBONS

This is the second time the cats have done this - apparently Yuko's old room is their favorite place to barf. Gross.

We're in NYC right now! We spent a couple of hours doing the rounds of our favorite stores. Yuko got a brush pen from Kinokuniya, and then we picked up a used copy of Jeff Smith's Shazam! from Book-Off (which I read when we got home - totally charming despite the superhero nonsense, and charming in the way only Jeff Smith can write). Cafe Zaiya is right next door, which is where we grabbed some food ... we split a bento box with rice, cabbage, pickled seaweed salad and curry croquettes (super good!) out in front of the Bryant Park library. There's some ume onigiri in the fridge for tomorrow, although I will probably fold and have one tonight.

Sorry, I got carried away ... good food will do that.

Nothing is worse

Comment by Decad (not verified) Tue, 12/30/2008 - 09:17

Nothing absolutely nothing is worse than cat vomit. Well maybe runny cat shit but thats debatable.

So, tell me. DO YOU STILL WANT A CAT NOW, ANANTH? I mean, I would. I would totally find solace in the fact that it prefers barfing on my S.O's stuff than on mine. :]

Comment by Decad (not verified) Tue, 12/30/2008 - 15:57

If you can train the cat to barf on their stuff when your angry with them then that would be sweet

My roommate's cat had this

Comment by Kachi (not verified) Tue, 12/30/2008 - 23:29

My roommate's cat had this 'condition' that made her vomit all the time, at least two or three times a day. The awesome thing was that she wouldn't pick it up afterwards. She'd let it sit for days or weeks at a time because she refused to touch it when it was wet. One day I got home from a bad day at work and stepped in a huge pile that was there when I left. I screamed at her asking her why she didn't think it was a good idea to pick up the vomit that was right by the front door. She said "Because it was gross."

I've moved out since then...

The cat uses my empty room as her own personal vomit chamber.

Good cats!

I travel back to my parents house about once a month or so and have to bring the cats each time, unfortunately they're not too strong-stomached when it comes to riding in the car and by the time I get home it's usually way too dark to deal with cleaning the car out at that time. I try remember to clear it up before going to work in the morning but I forget and it's always that day that people decide to want to go in the back of my car for a bad, serves them right for being cheeky enough to keep asking for a ride and not offering up anything in return! Good cats!

Reversed Order

Our back pantry is haunted by ancient easter baskets full of plastic grass. Within the past few years I have realized that the cat is obsessed with devouring said plastic grass, not because it goes in one end, but because it comes out of the other. At the bottom of the stairs.

I know this one. We have three orange tabby cats at home, and the only reason two of them ever want to go outside is to eat the grass, then throw it up on the white carpet. The third wants to get out, run away, and come back wanting in at 5am.

Actually, that's not the worst story. A few years ago we lived in a house with a mouse problem, so we set traps for the things. (Yes, we used old-fashioned mouse-traps. We are terrible human beings. Boo hoo). Anyway, the second night, we heard a trap go off, but since it was late, we decided we'd get it in the morning. Around 3am, the oldest cats jumps up on the bed and sits on my chest, really close to my face. He meows. Somewhere in my stupor, I notice his cat breath is a little off. I open my eyes. My cat looks at me with a 'Look what I caught and killed for you, mommy' look. I look down and there was a mouse in the trap, almost right under my nose.

My cat was proud of himself the next couple days, and my husband did well to remind me that he is my cat.

I hate ume. My Dad back in Cali eats them out of the jar, and I never got a taste for them. Here in Japan, (Military, stationed here) I tried one again at a udon place that I love going to. It made my stomach turn. ; o;

Love your comic!

The worst case scenario is when the ribbon goes all the way through, but does not get 'out' all the way. THen the cat goes tearing around your apartment trying to run away from the ribbon chasing their butt. as they are running around the apartment the ribbon gets caught on a chair leg and gets ripped out covered in stuff. the cat lets out a yelp and hides under the bed for the next three hours.

Book-Off? State-side!?

Comment by Luke (not verified) Wed, 06/23/2010 - 12:04

What is this madness? There's Book-Off in the states? I've only known it in Japan (when I went with an exchange program), and it is the most amazing thing. Where is it in NYC?

It's so odd to hear those three listed in an itinerary of any kind. It's the first time I've heard any of them mentioned off-handedly, [Without having been specifically looking for information about them] and they're listed in the same order I tend to follow. I've been to each of them four or five times.
(I live somewhat locally, in southern Westchester.)
