I can't tell if I'm making something too strong/hot until it's in my mouth and I'm choking like a fish in air. Except for my awesome cough syrup. Mmmmm licorice. I bet even Conrad could smell it, it's so powerful.

I'm new to reading this comic, and it's such a weird coincidence that I stumble on this one - I, too, have no sense of smell (and my friends always forget, too... my boyfriend's mother even bought me perfume for Christmas and there was this whole long awkward discussion...)

On the other end of the spectrum, my nose is extra-sensitive. Not perfumier-standard, but close enough to frighten my folks when I'm the only one who smells burning. And enough to make me gag whenever they cook kedgerrie and leave it in the larder opposite my room. Hmm.

I too have no sense of smell. I don't know what I'm missing, but it does come in handy when you have to go to stinky places.

i also have no sense of smell! no identified reason for it, and it doesn't work even sometimes. you are lucky conrad! at least this way people won't be 'but you miss out on LIFE!!1' all the freaking time. everyone (close family included) forget all the time for me too.

I lost my sense of smell after a trip through Europe's dirtiest cities. They weren't that interesting, either. (France, the cleanest of the three, was also more interesting. Rome did have good food and a cymbalum player, at least.)

I have the same problem, Due to chronic allergys and a strong bout of bronchitis as a child my sense of smell is shot most of the time along with my respiratory system for the most of it...it's like asthma but it isn't... >.>

Here's another one of the people with no sense of smell. Or to be more accurate, it comes and goes. Mostly gone though.
Sometimes I smell things that aren't there. Like my mind is making it up out of nostalgia. (I used to have a GREAT sense of smell. It went away about 2 years ago.)
I can still taste BTW, Food just tastes different now. And not as good.

And no one, ever, EVER seems to remember that when they say, "Can you smell that? Doesn't that smell great?" That I'm going to give them that blank stare and say. "No."

And then I'll cry. :{P

A close friend of mine from grade school can't smell at all either - and I also never remember even though I've known her for like eight years. I'd hold things up to her face and be all "does this smell funny to you?" and she'd get mad.... many good "oh crap I'm so sorry" moments to be had.

And she could taste just fine, though she eats mostly candy. Perhaps sugar is her strongest tongue-sense, I dunno.

Aw, it's okay. I have the same problem as well.
It has its upsides. If someone farts I usually can't smell it! Yay!

Wow, I cannot believe how many people read this AND commented who have this problem. I mean, I have it too. Same deal. Pretty sure I can taste, although coffee lacks much of its allure for me because I ONLY get the taste. Can't see worth shit though so no superpowers there.

BUT

Sometimes I smell something really, really strongly from the PAST. It's annoying because it won't go away for hours and because there's never any actual smell-related trigger, just usually sight or situations or something.

Anyway this comic sums up things hilariously well.

I've got the same problem. I can taste fine but I couldn't smell rotten eggs if you put 'em in my face.

I have mostly the same problems. For the most part I can't smell anything unless you put it right under my nose AND it's a particularly strong smell.

It's fairly convienient as far as I'm concerned. I can't remember ever being able to smell so it's not like I know what I'm missing. And I don't have to smell the persistently bad stuff, like when we drive by an open sewer and everyone cringes. Or like when I was stationed in Korea and everyone said the country smelled like a mix of pollution and urine.

The only inconvienience I experience is that I don't know if my clothes smell.

I had a teacher my senior year of high school in English who had no sense of smell either which confused me cause everyone is always like 'you can't taste without smell' but she did just fine it literally took a whole class period once where we all just said how impossible it was and she kept going 'guys...it's really not that hard to get' lol

I started reading Johnny Wander about a month ago and I've been slowly trying to read all of your posts thus far and I love them all.

I just wanted to say I am anosmic because I have Kallmann's Syndrome, which for some reason a symptom is that I can't smell and never have been able to. Let me just say for anyone reading these comments from this long ago, I must have a lowered ability to taste, but I don't notice at all since I was born with it.

A big part of tasting for me is that there are differing levels of the 5 tastes, different textures, levels of heat, ect... I probably just notice different things than others who can smell. I'm not a picky eater too, I actually like natto.

My friend told me once that she can't smell anything else but a really strong vanilla. I don't know if it's true but it was really wierd thought. O_o

I had the same thing when I was in middle school where I could not smell but could tast things better than anyone else. My mom used to say my nose was just for decoration.I finally got the prescription equivalent of flonase and I (almost) could smell everything good or bad.

Aww. I get that feeling a lot. Especially in microbiology labs, when we're meant to distinguish bacteria by scent... I think I'm gonna fail that lab pretty badly...

Maybe he would be able to smell things better with more humid air. Actually, all human beings are able to smell better when the air is more humid, so maybe this would help him too?
