Oh man, so much to talk about! First: my apologies that the comic is perhaps a tad late, but we all owe my friend and co-worker Emily Compton a great debt of gratitude! She was kind enough to punch a comic out for your viewing pleasure after a tough day of work, so she deserves extra love and props. Yuko and Ananth will return on their regular schedule next week after ROFL-Con.
One of many things wrong with Spacklehaus. Every time it rained, we got a little swimming pool in the basement. I sometimes imagine the house as an old prize fighter, on his last legs, doing his best but ultimately falling short. We were in Rochester this past weekend for Toracon, and we took a moment to drive by Spacklehaus - the red paint on the shutters has bled down the front of the building and the houses on either side seem to have been repainted, so it looks a little like a haunted house.
Hey guys, the website just deleted a huge news post I had written up. I'm on a severe time crunch and don't have the time to rewrite it, so I'll just hit on the key points.
I'm certain this has been mentioned before, my day job is basically doing work-for-hire comics. Right now, I'm trying to hit this deadline before we leave for Toracon tomorrow and there isn't time for much else. Sorry guys, I'll be more diligent next week!
Hey guys --
It doesn't look like there's going to be a comic today - we're swamped with work. We'll try to put up a little something if we can find the time, sorry about that! Things will be back to normal next week.
Have a great weekend! Hopefully we'll catch you at Tora-con!
Hello there Johnny Wander readers! I know this isn't really standard fare, but my friend Rhionna has fallen on some hard times: while between jobs she was diagnosed with brittle diabetes, which has resulted in stage two kidney failure. With no job and no insurance to speak of, she's currently taking commissions for custom shoes to help make ends meet.
A lot of people have been requesting the frosting recipe I used, so I'll share it here!
Basically what I did was make a standard buttercream frosting, but replaced the sugar with a package of instant pudding. The resulting frosting is rich, ridiculously thick and less sweet than store-bought frostings. I haven't seen this online anywhere, but I'm certain I'm not the first person to do this.
A while back, George bought frosting for the pill cookies that went with his Dr. Mario costume. John's since been taking care of the frosting by squeezing it onto a spoon and eating it. What I'm trying to say is that give him the frosting and run away while he's distracted.
We ordered new bookmarks today. Those cat bookmarks will be back, and they'll be joined by a puppy bookmark and a Maw bookmark.
MoCCA was this past weekend - thanks to everyone who stopped us to say hello! Nice to meet ya. Aaron Diaz stayed with us and on Monday we went to the American Natural History Museum -- two of his readers, Michelle and Kat (I hope I'm spelling that correctly), were kind enough to give us a behind-the-scenes tour! We got to see where the bones are cleaned, stored, and we got a great sense of how people in that field work. Thanks so much Michelle and Kat!!
I couldn't make this up even if I wanted to.
This weekend is MoCCA! We don't have a table this year, but we will be circulating, so flag us down and say hello if you like! We don't bite at all, I promise. :) Additionally, Yuko will be at Drink and Draw Like a Lady on Friday night, so ladies can catch her there as well!
